This week I worked though lunch both Monday and Tuesday. I more than made up for it by taking a really long lunch on Wednesday. I’m talking 3-1/2 hours long. Between the 45+ hour work weeks and relentless RL, I just needed some time for myself. So I took it. The temp was 65o with a gentle breeze so it was a beautiful day to be outside. I had a nice lunch (sesame chicken) at a Chinese restaurant. I ran a few errands including finally returning some shelving parts to Lowe’s for a refund. The things had been in my trunk for two weeks (I usually buy more than I need so I don’t have to stop mid-project to make another trip to the store). I returned a book to the library and stayed there at least an hour. It was such a peaceful escape from the world. A feeling of calm came over me when I sat down in my favorite chair. I hadn’t even known I was tense. That hour, spent reading in a nook amongst the books, passed in the blink of an eye. I think I needed that moment of zen. Even though I’m in the middle of a few other books, I still had to check out
The Devil and Miss Prym by Paul Coelho.
Yesterday, I had a salad for lunch at my desk and … booked a cruise to the Bahamas. That announcement is brought to you by the Society for the Quest to Unequivocally Embrace Escapism. That’s SQUEE! to you and me. *g*
Today’s sandwich was … anticlimactic, as tuna salad is wont to be.
Tomorrow will be spent with friends so I’m sure a nice lunch can be expected. We’ll be wandering around downtown Lexington. There are always great little shops and cafes to discover. Two restaurants I think quaint and unusual are Charlie Brown’s and Joe Bologna’s. Those are two you might walk on by not suspecting what was inside the doors. Charlie Brown’s is a sandwich restaurant just off the UK campus. People can lounge around in sofas and armchairs, bookshelves line all four walls and are crammed with old hardbacks, and you can take any book you want as long as you replace it with another one. Joe Bologna’s, known as Joe B’s, is an Italian restaurant located inside a former Jewish temple with stained-glass windows, chandeliers, and a raised pulpit that’s now the bar. Have some pizza in the sanctuary for a religious experience. :D Seriously, Joe B’s merits its claim of the best pizza in town. Also the breadsticks are more like loaves, served in a metal platter of melted garlic butter. And the spinach salad is amazing. Okay, I’ve talked myself into wanting Italian tomorrow.
I’m still amused that I'm seeing a play tomorrow night at the Guignol Theatre at UK instead of the Gielgud Theatre in the UK. So close, and yet so far.
Have a good one, flisties. :)
