Was it so long ago that the doors opened wide for him? Tirion, alight with festive celebration as whole families gathered, welcoming him, pleading with him to complete their revels with his harp and a song. Joyously mingling their voices with his own.

And now? Now, lights went out in the house and hamlet as they came, and doors were shut, and folk that were afield cried in terror and ran wild like hunted deer.

He shuddered and closed his eyes as he quietly recalled his promise.

I swear it.

What a world of difference three ill-fated words could make.
