Hollywood or bust

I made a movie, beotch! I've made movies before, but they were usually silly tidbits or school projects, never more than a couple minutes. But last Friday, at the Paper Heart Gallery in downtown Phoenix, there premiered a half-hour-long masterpiece created by me.

At first, I was just an actor in this crazy, unscripted downhill slolam of a project. Then, four days before the premiere, the director, Nick, called me.
"I need to ask you a big favor," he said. "I'm really sick. Will you finish the movie?"
"Sure," I said, "what the hell. I'll do it." Little did I know that "finishing the movie" entailed four-straight days of solid editing, stopping only to sleep for a few hours at a time. I finally finished the damn thing the night before the premeire, but Scott, the sound editor still had to add music to the piece.

We were supposed to go on at 9:30 friday night. When 9:30 came, we were still waiting for the file to render. When the rendering was complete, we had to burn it to DVD, but there were some technical difficulties -- the file wouldn't transfer.

It was 10:30 when Scott and I carried the damn computer into the gallery and set it up. 15 more minutes of trying to get the sound to work and we were rolling. Fortunately, the audience was comprised mostly of our patient, patient friends and loved ones. Everybody liked the film and I got a Producer, Actor, and Editor credit.

I would have written about this sooner, but after that editing stint, I've kind of been avoiding anything with a screen.
