46. The Cricket on the Hearth, by Charles Dickens. Meant to post this "last year," but got distracted by other things. I read this for my video readings. This might be the first book I kind of regret doing. I've never actually read it before, but I saw a good adaptation years ago at one of our local theaters and remembered it was a charming story. And the story is charming- just really, really wordy. It's only three "Chirps," but it could have been condensed into two, or even one and a half. The story was written at a time when authors were paid by the word and oh laws, it shows. It's also clumsy in spots. While it is a cute story, my recommendation is to find an abridged version.
