books o15 - o19 : the wrinkle in time quintet.
It was a dark and stormy night.
In the mood for a good dose of shiny happy fantasy fiction, I read Madeleine L'Engle's Wrinkle in Time Quintet. This set contains the following: A Wrinkle in Time (1962), A Wind in the Door (1973), A Swiftly Tilting Planet (1978), Many Waters (1986), and An Acceptable Time (1989). Pretty classic fantasy books, or so I gather.
Overall, I found the five books to be very imaginative and enjoyable. The books skip around a little in timing, but it doesn't really matter what order you read them in, though I'd recommend starting with the classic A Wrinkle in Time. They're quick reads, and I'm a slow reader. There was a combination of fantasy and science fiction that I wasn't really expecting. In fact, the references to religion were surprising to me. It wasn't subtle, though at times it wasn't too powerful. I also liked the character development. My personal favorites are A Wrinkle in Time, A Wind in the Door, and, for some reason, Many Waters.
The same family (or two families, if we're being technical) is followed throughout the five books, though the main character(s) is not the same character from book to book, which I really liked. There are three other books in connection to the five, and they are: The Arm of the Starfish, Dragons in the Waters, and A House Like a Lotus. I'm not entirely sure why they didn't just make a set of eight, and I've noticed that these three are rather hard to come by (or my library continues to be a very confusing thing; this is very possible). I'm interested in reading them, though.

Length : 1,495 pages.
Rating : 4/5 = Pretty darn good.
