This morning at 8:20am, on my way to work my cell phone rang. It was a 714 area code so I had no idea who it could be but I figured it was work-related. I answered, "Patrick McCay," and a machine said, "Hello this is Bank of ##### calling about your auto loan. If you are. Patrick. McCay. press 1 now." I pressed 1. "If you are. Patrick McCay. who lives at. ____________ press 2 now." I pressed 2. "Your auto.loan. payment of. $282.74 is overdue by. seven.teen. days. Press 1 to pay by check." With a WTF, I press 1. "Please hold. You will be. connected. momentarily." I wait, listening to their elevator music. An operator comes on and says, "Yes may I please speak with Patrick McCay?" WHAT?! Of course its me! "That's me," I say. "Okay, Patrick. You are overdue on your last car payment. So, do you want to-" I cut her off here, "This is what I don't understand. I have an auto-payment set up with Bank of ##### where they automatically take the money out of my account every month. So, I should never be late, this makes no sense to me at all." She says, "Oh, well this is the LAST car payment and they cannot take that out automatically. You should have received documentation about this." WHAT?! "Okay... Well I recieve enough documentation from you and the reason I have the autopay is so I can ignore my mail." "Well, we can go ahead and pay this now by check." CHECK?! "Well, I don't have a check on me. What about a check card?" She asks, "Is it a Bank of ##### checking account?" "Yes." "Oh, OK, well we can just do this automatically then. [a few clicks of a keyboard in the background] Ok. Its all set up. Is there anything else I can do for you?" WHAT?!
