Wow, 8 hours to film walking in and out of a building? Is there no more efficient way they could do it? Haha, as if I have a clue. That's cool that you got to watch.
I've been following the Scott issue in a nearly stalker-like fashion :) by tracking where he is based on fan photos each week. In July and August he was in LA a LOT, like for a week or even two at a time, and I think that's what the interview with Alex was conducted where he said he misses the McDanno when Scott isn't there. It's also when they did all the PR and the episodes with Chi. But now Scott has been in HI for 2 (maybe 3) weeks in a row, so maybe he and the production ironed out some differences? He's under contract for 7 seasons so I don't see how he can just decide not to work, can he? I hope he and the production have worked things out.
The Friday ratings have been worse than Monday, but very good for a Friday. Lenkov and CBS seem very happy. I wouldn't be surprised if there's an S5 renewal.
Like you I'm taking all the McDanno I can get. I just wish all the interaction so far wasn't all about the horror of relationships and marriage. I'm looking for some danger-based angst and h/c like I always do :).
It really grates to see the Steve/Cath thing develop so quickly, to where she's even living with him, belch. And apparently there's a major development next week. If eventually Cath ends up on 5-0 (SPOILER ALERT, MB has hinted this will happen in her twitter), will the McRoll continue? That would be such a bad idea on so many levels. OMG, the idea of Steve having to be especially worried about Cath on every case would make me want to hurl, seriously. My only hope is Lenkov knows how bad this would be for the team dynamic.
But yeah, as 4thoffive said, if they could get back from making McDanno the comic relief, and Danno the yapping puppy that he sometimes seems, then I could sort of stomach the McRoll and still enjoy the show.
Yeah it seems so inefficient. They filmed some stuff inside the building in the AM and then walking in and out on 2 different 'days' in the afternoon.
Hopefully the Danno time can pick up again now, if he is there more than he was in July/August. The eps we're getting are very 'filled' with non-Danny and this lines up with being filmed in that time.
TBH I haven't felt like Danny isn't 'there' but that the times he has, it isn't of substance. Because it's probably stuff that's fast and easy to shoot. IDK.
I don't know how actors stand the long boring days filming the same scene over and over again so they can get the shot from many different angles. I'd go nuts.
I agree with you, it's not that Danny isn't there, it's that his scenes are so lightweight.
Or the substance we are getting is not with Steve. Because they conserve the time. So he gets a meaty scene with Gabby, after whinging to Steve for 4 scenes.
See, I could actually live quite happily with Cath on the team if it meant that she *wasn't* in a relationship with Steve. Another female team member, another kick-ass woman (which sadly Lori failed to be), that would work for me. What doesn't work is Steve pulling all this soppy, lovey-dovey, typical-guy romance stuff. I need Steve to be a noble, self-sacrificing and slightly damaged hero that I can fantasize about, not a typical domestic everyday hubby type (I already have one of those, and I love him and wouldn't swap him for the world, but my TV viewing is supposed to be escapism, dammit, not more of the same!).
Worst scenario for me would be Cath on the team and still in a relationship with Steve - unprofessional and, oh god no, 'married couple fighting crime together'. No, just... no.
I can live with her on the show if she stays Steve's girlfriend but their relationship is very much a secondary story line but I know that is not to be.
I hate seeing Steve being a goofy romantic fool too. Makes him less interesting.
I'm with you - if she's on the team and not in a relationship with Steve, I'm okay. I still think Borth's behavior last spring was horrible, and I don't like her, but I can try to ignore it. Steve being all soppy, I can't handle, as you say. Plus you know Danny would fall even more to the background, and all their convos would be about Cath. BARF.
I've struggled to not let my feelings about the way the actress handled the whole Twitter thing influence the way I feel about the character, but I must admit it's been hard - I really wish she'd just maintained a dignified silence and let it all die a natural death.
I think that the hard fact is that we've got Scott and Grace who both don't really want to be in Hawaii any more, Daniel who has family commitments and doesn't want to do too much more, and then Alex and Michelle who really want to be there, so it seems inevitable that we're going to see more of Cath.
Thanks for joining in on the discussion. I can't help thinking the times Scott was in LA for an extended period match up with episodes like next week's where he may not be very involved.
A lot of people are suggesting Scott may have some differences with the producers and maybe he is but Scott signed a seven year contract, he can't just walk away without being sued.
I've heard the rumour about Cath joining 5-0 as well and I doubt it's true. I looked through Borth's twitter feed and I couldn't fine any mention of it. They haven't milked the Steve/Cath/Billy jealousy story line enough yet.
I get that Cath is going to figure heavily into the show. I can accept that...eventually, but that doesn't mean they should trivialize Danny or make him into a fool. Other show writers are able to juggle lots of characters and still give them meaningful story lines (The Good Wife is an example) I don't know why these writers can't.

Sorry to ramble so long!

As for Borth, here are the tweets I was referring to. It was in response to a question from a fan. I'm trying to embed the tweets:
