[released July 27 2016]
This interview was themed on "Silhouette", one of the B-sides to Jinsei wa Subarashii. They were asked 2 questions about themselves, and then 2 questions about another member, related to their silhouette/image.
Questions that shed light on the 7 of their silhouettes (self edition)
Q1. What part of your silhouette do you like?
Q2. When you hear impressions of yourself, do you think they are like you, or do you think they're wrong?
Shigeoka Daiki
A1. I like that my chin is very sharp. It seems to be getting thinner year over year (laughs). On the other hand, I dislike how my ears are small. During lives, my earpiece immediately falls out.
[t/n: technically he said his "インカム" falls out, which, from a lot of searching, is apparently a telecommunications brand? - also known as Icom]
A2. I've been told that I'm very much like a child. That probably matches me though? On the road or on the curb, there's a slightly high place, isn't there? I would immediately go climb on to it. But I think my mature parts are also growing considerably. In particular, I try to not forget to keep my worries in mind.
Kiriyama Akito
A1. The line of my chin. The fans often say that my profile is good, and I came to like it. On the other hand, I don't like that I'm big. I want to try wearing things like leather pants and skinny clothing, but they don't suit me at all (laughs).
A2. I have a goofy character, but when I'm alone, I'm very quiet. I'm probably the most quiet out of all the members. When it's dark around me I lift them up, and when it's bright around me I withdraw. That's why when everyone gets excited and I'm quiet on my own, they're like "why are you acting like a cool Buddhist!?" (laughs).
Nakama Junta
A1. I think it's pretty good that I have long legs (laughs). Because I like my slim silhouette, it really makes me happy when people tell me "you suit skinny pants".
A2. For some reason, the members... Shigeoka in particular, have been telling me "you're definitely not popular". Isn't that rude (laughs)!? For example, if I say "I'd like a girlfriend," they'll all say "impossible, impossible!" (laughs). Well, if I seriously try I can do it (laughs)! That why I want to say this to the people around me. "Even I'm popular~!!"
Kamiyama Tomohiro
A1. I like my shoulder width. I'm even doing muscle training now, during the summer, so the area around my shoulders has become developed. I don't really have a plan to take off my clothes and show them off (laughs), but I'm training so that I'll suit t-shirts or summer clothes.
A2. I don't know whether being told I'm good at dance or singing matches me, but it makes me happy. I've been doing dance for 18 years already, and want to confidently pull the members along. But I think I still have to keep growing; I don't want to be complacent.
Fujii Ryusei
A1. When I'm asked what part I like, I always answer the line that connects my ears to my chin. What I don't like is the thinness of my figure. Among the members, I'm the one with the least amount of shoulder width. But since my body suits clothing, it's actually okay (laughs). If I had to say something, it'd be my hair. Because it's flat.
A2. People say that they think I'm not really a talkative person, but I am (laughs). I'm probably first out of the members. I have a lot of friends, and I interact with other Johnny's pretty frequently. The other day, I attended the Tsukada-meeting, and stayed over at Mr. KING's Nagase Ren's home.
Hamada Takahiro
A1. I used to hate them, but I might have come to like my shoulders. They have a clean slope, don't they? Thanks to them, when I appear on TV, people are able to make fun of me, which I think is good. What I don't like is how skinny I am. There are probably a lot of people who are jealous that I'm unable to gain weight, but I'm not pleased!
A2. I think it suits me when people tell me "you seem gentle". I'm not sharp. However, when I left half an hour earlier than scheduled and ended up an hour and a half late because I got stuck in a traffic jam, I got mad (laughs). At that moment, I kept yelling "oraaaaa" alone (laughs).
Kotaki Nozomu
A1. I like my legs. They're long, which is nice (laughs). The part I dislike is... nothing!
A2. What I think matches me is "loud". Because my laughter is also loud, it can't be helped that everyone tells me that. What I think is incorrect about myself is probably "cool". Even though I don't think that about myself, people have told me "you seem cool". I kind of have an appearance like I can't calm down. When I'm told I'm cool? I say "no no no! I myself still don't think I'm like that" (laughs).
Questions that shed light on the 7 of their silhouettes (member edition)
Q1. What is the member's unknown background efforts?
Q2. What part of the member's silhouette do you like?
To... Shigeoka
Hamada
A1. Since he's a hardworking person, he probably does a lot of studying that people don't see. He doesn't tell us about it, but when we try to meet up in private, he's not really able to. It seems he has plans with various groups, so he'll tell us "I've been doing something~".It makes me happy that he's doing his best in order for everyone to grow.
A2. His solidly built figure. It seems easy for him to gain muscle, and he's healthy. I'm envious, because I can't gain weight, nor can I build muscle at all.
Kotaki
A1. Shige's concentration is higher than anyone else's (laughs). It's not during the actual performances, but before practice or rehearsals. I often see him enter his own world. While listening to music and stretching, he'll enter his own world, and because his concentration has gone up, it feels like he's challenging something.
A2. He has a nice body build. Specifically his shoulder width. Mine are also broad, but I think his seem masculine and cool. They're an "inverted triangle". The width of his back is also nice.
To... Kiriyama
Kotaki
A1. Akito seems like Kansai's hilarious older brother, but he's actually very dedicated. Right now, in the dressing room, he'll be focused on reading the script for his drama, "HOPE ~Kitai Zero no Shinnyuu Shain~". There are times where he'll read it on his own, and there's times where he'll call someone over to act with him. I often see that side of him when he has a drama.
A2. Probably the width of his back. After all, it's manly, and a wide back is cool! It also feels like it's of a high calibre, doesn't it.
Shigeoka
A1. I don't know whether it's considered effort or not, but he cares for people, and he's trying to widen his circle of friends. He even actively invites people around out to eat. I guess he also hated going out to eat on his own.
A2. His butt. It has impact and cute power (laughs). When there's a photoshoot for a magazine, there's often a scene where when someone's sleeping, and someone else sits on top of them, right. I'm the one that proactively sits on top of him. I can sit on him with a sense of stability (laughs).
To... Nakama
Shigeoka
A1. It's him wearing caps and hats during lives, right. It seems he's aiming for something like the "Best of Hat Award" (laughs). Therefore, his effort might not be in the background soon.
A2. Junta-kun's stance is good-looking. His arms and legs are long. I like his silhouette. Moreover, he knows his arms and legs are slender (laughs). He himself said "because my arms and legs are long, my style is good"! Alhough that side of him is annoying, I'm still envious (laughs).
Kiriyama
A1. Because he's interested in the production side of concerts, he puts in effort to look at various things. He even does things like keeping track of which of our songs have not been sang in a concert yet. I also think it's great that he studies in advance for things like when he appears in shows where they talk about politics.
A2. His legs are incredibly long! They're long, thin, and practically hairless. When I look at them when he's undressed in the dressing room, I think they're like a girl's (laughs). Isn't he the member that would suit mini-skirts the most?
To... Kamiyama
Kiriyama
A1. He hates losing, so he's working really hard to do things no one else is doing. He's even playing countless musical intstruments. I heard that lately he's been learning trumpet from Kanjani∞'s Yokoyama (Yu)-kun. Even though he's far from deciding to show it off, I think his effort is amazing!
A2. I think it's nice that he's able to change his hair colour. I've only had black hair recently, so it's hard to dye. Kami-chan doesn't really change his hairstyle, but he keeps changing its colour.
Nakama
A1. Kami-chan has become WEST's foundation. Everyone's dance comes together when he's dancing in the middle, and he also supports us in songs. He can also play instruments. In terms of hidden efforts, he's the person who's willing to support WEST from behind.
A2. The alignment of hs body is definitely solid, but I've never seen him naked. I've only seen a little bit. (Kamiyama heads back to the changing room) The width of his shoulders are pretty good! His muscles aren't stiff, they're flexible. I like that.
To... Fujii
Nakama
A1. Ryusei has a strong image of an airhead, but he's actually steadfast. He watches and studies various MVs from overseas artists. The other day, I went over to his place, and he showed me various MVs. We got excited, discussing things like "this is interesting", and "I want to do an MV like this".
A2. I'm envious of his slender, model-like style. Moreover, his muscles are solidly built. Because I have the type of constitution that doesn't gain muscle, I admire his masculine silhouette.
Kamiyama
A1. I think he's been studying how he appears in videos and in lives a lot. Ever since he's been a Jr., he'd sing while looking at himself in the mirror, and think about how he could look cool. Well, he actually is a cool guy though (laughs).
A2. His height. Although his legs are long and he's tall, his face is small. I'm 170.5cm, which is average, but because the members are tall, I look small. I want to shout "I'm not small!" (laughs)
To... Hamada
Kamiyama
A1. Before we debuted, the two of us took acrobatic classes. The entire time Hama-chan did the stageplay he was starring in, he would study recordings from his rehearsals. I think he's a really hard worker.
A2. His muscles. I think it's amazing that his figure is muscular, even though he didn't train, and that it also doesn't build fat. After all, his body fat percentage is about the same as
Murofushi (Koji), 4%! His arms are especially nice. Every part of the muscle is visible.
Fujii
A1. Hama-chan might not like me saying this, but in variety shows, or during an MC, when he slightly makes a mistake in a comment, he really regrets it after. So then he'll study. And he probably thinks things like, what should I say next. I think it's amazing.
A2. His sloping shoulders. Because they're part of the reason why he became known (laughs). Without them, he probably wouldn't have gotten as far. He also wouldn't have gotten involved with Sakurai (Sho)-kun (laughs). I'm jealous, but I don't need something like that (laughs)!
To... Kotaki
Fujii
A1. For Nozomu, when it comes to unknown effort, I haven't really seen it, but because he has amazing courage, he can pretty much do anything. But I think, for the things that only he can do, he does them properly - he doesn't just do them in public.
A2. His height. I'm also pretty tall, but he's taller by far. My ideal is 183. he's probably 185, 186, so I want him to distribute 3cm to me. And then he would become about 183. The both of us being about 183 would be just right (laughs).
Hamada
A1. When we're doing lives, he goes to practice earlier than the rest of us. When I hear him say "I think I'll go ahead~" I think, oh yeah. Because I feel like I should try to do a little practice and image training at home, I think he's amazing. He doesn't say "I'm going to do it"... but I think his silence is cool (laughs).
A2. He's slender, has long legs, and has good style. I'm not much thinner than him, but my legs are short (laughs)
The selected "Silhouette" is a Kansai Jr. song!
Kotaki: "Jinsei wa Subarashii" is a refreshing and up-tempo song!
Fujii: It's a mainstream Johnny's idol song melody.
Kiriyama: The choreography is cute~
Fujii: There's a part where we pat this area (chest) with our hands.
Shigeoka: The MV has the image of a small trip. We all did barbecue, we broke a watermelon, and we battled with water guns.
Kotaki: We also had nagashi soumen.
Kiriyama: It was the first time I'd done nagashi soumen with such a long pipe.
Kamiyama: The director told me that he wanted me to do the part where you put the soumen in, so I did.
Kiriyama: The soumen came steadily; before we knew it, we'd reached the last basket (laughs).
Shigeoka: And we also made yakisoba.
Kotaki: That was delicious~
Hamada: We made yakisoba! It only generally tasted like it though (laughs).
Kiriyama: It was really delicous!
Hamada: It was the most delicious in the whole world!
Nakama: He didn't say the whole world (laughs).
Hamada: We earnestly seized the beginning of summer~
Shigeoka: Also, we recorded "Silhouette", which the fans voted for out of our unreleased songs.
Kotaki: We've been singing this song since we were Kansai Johnny's Juniors; it's been about 5 years since then?
Shigeoka: It's from the same time as "Makehende baby"...
Kotaki: I didn't remember that at all! But that's Shigeoka's solo (laughs).
Fujii: Because "Silhouette" is a good song, everyone likes it.
Kotaki: Just listening to it causes a scene to come to my mind. It's a warm song, but it also gives you somewhat painful feelings. That's the mysterious power of "Silhouette".
Nakama: Since it was put on the CD ths time, all of the fans will be happy because they can sing it at karaoke, right?
Kamiyama: I'd also sing it.
Hamada: I want to listen.
Kotaki: Sing it together! (laughs)
Nakama: Won't the Kansai Juniors sing it as well? I want them to excitedly tell their friends "this is our song" when they go out to karaoke together.
Kotaki: That's right. We're just the music source - it's a Kansai Junior song, after all.
We went too hard in Waku Waku Gakkou and had a debriefing (laughs)
Nakama: I'm changing the topic a bit; do you have any memories regarding "Waku Waku Gakkou" that we did with Arashi-san?
Kiriyama: At first, we went too hard, and it ended up getting congested with tsukkomi.
Kotaki: We had a debriefing.
Nakama: And we ate together.
Hamada: The distance between us and Arashi-san shrank there. It made me happy!
Fujii: Hama-chan, you misrepresented your age as 26 to Sakurai-kun, right?
Hamada: I don't remember. I was panicking because I was sandwiched between Sakurai-kun and Aiba-kun.
Nakama: For a plan this summer, I want us all to do something because Non-chan is turning 20. Personally.
Kiriyama: (to Kotaki) How nice, just the two of you drinking is amazing!
Nakama: With everyone! (laughs)
Kiriyama: Because you said "personally", it'd be bad if we got in the way (laughs).
Fujii: Where would you take him?
Nakama: I want to go to a beer garden It's summer-like.
Fujii: Wouldn't it be awkward for the two of you to go to a beer garden?
Nakama: With everyone! (laughs) All of us being able to get together and drink is huge.
Kotaki: Up until now, after the end of concerts, I was the only person that couldn't drink alcohol, but I'll be able to at the next one.
Hamada: We want to do a concert soon.
Nakama: Seriously, we do!
