For the past few weeks I've been spending most days fabricating parts. This means running around gathering materials; mounting silicon and glass for machining; using the milling machine, drill press, dicing saw, lapping machine, polishing machine; cleaning stuff with exciting solvents; and (what takes up most of the time) measuring six or seven times, so I only have to cut once. It's fun work. I like being able to see something tangible I've made at the end of a day.

Today my task was to set up a simple laser system (mirrors, fiber optics, and other optics). It's a more tedious job, but it's also quieter and cleaner, and it was a welcome change of pace.
