Harry Potter Party!

Jul 26, 2007 22:21

Well, I've seen Order of the Phoenix twice, and read Deathly Hallows once (finished at 2:20 AM Monday morning....I got a slow start), and I'm still working my way through re-reading the rest of the books, but I think it is safe to say that I am ready for the:

Harry Potter Post Mortem Party!

This Saturday, July 28th, 2 PM to whenever. Melville Keep in Dorchester.

Costumes (or HP-themed t-shirts) are strongly encouraged, but of course, not required. We will try to limit spoiler-laden discussion to certain areas; those who have not finished the book yet are still encouraged to attend.

I'll be providing lots of Harry Potter themed food: Pumpkin Pasties, Cockroach Clusters, Rock Cakes (biscuits). I've even made up a batch of Cauldron cakes (Welsh Cakes, technically). But there's still at least two other recipes for cauldron cakes online, not to mention lots of other fun stuff, so go wild! Treacle tarts, anyone?

I've been asked for ideas for foods that are not sweet, as so many of the HP recipes online are for candy type stuff. In the books, people eat normal food too: roasted chicken, ham pie, salad, boiled potatos. So really, you could bring anything you want, because as far as I'm concerned, it's all about the name. For example, I've made some sausage rolls, which I'm told are popular in Britain, but I am calling them Three Broomsticks Pub Rolls, and I'll have a little sign to prove it. I'll bring extra signs, so feel free to be creative!

I also have two recipes for butterbeer, and two more ideas of my own, so I'll be looking for volunteers to help me determine which is best. Butterscotch schnapps mixed with cream soda? Root beer with butter and cream added? Rum toddy batter, mixed with rum and seltzer water, or with dark nutty beer? Enquiring minds want to know!
