I'll try not to post about politics too much, but...

May 23, 2005 00:37

I was reading Democracy Arsenal's top 10 list of reasons why the fallout from the Newsweek story is just beginning tonight, and here was number 9:

9. The absence of any strategy to retool the public diplomacy effort and make it more effective. The White House's primary public diplomacy coordinating body, the Office of Global Communications, was disbanded in March, 2005. It was to be replaced by a Deputy National Security Adviser post, but that job has never been filled. Karen Hughes, incoming head of public diplomacy at State, is still not on the job and has said nothing about how she plans to reinvigorate this vital effort. Not only have we not gotten public diplomacy right, we've barely got it off the ground.

Now, here's what I want to know: what the heck is going on with this administration? I mean, I never expected to like their policies, but good God, it's like they don't even know what the hell they're doing. A tribe of braindead monkeys could make better go of this. Ugh.

Alright, so not the most intelligent political thought I've ever had, but still. I mean, it's like now that they've won re-election, they don't even care about running the country anymore. I mean, hell, if they ever get their Social Security privitization and some conservative judges on the bench, maybe they'll all just go for a 3-year vacation. "We've done all we came here to do folks! Show's over! Have a good night!"

Hopefully there will be no encore.
