I don't have very many recent pictures of Cheese because rats are a lot less inclined to do cool stuff once they've reached old age.
Since Rigby died, I've been spending AT LEAST one hour with Cheese every day. Usually it's longer than that, but for the past week or so he's been living cage-free in our spare bathroom. He seems to enjoy the freedom and the fresh air, but he especially enjoys the attention and interaction. In other words, he's SUPER SPOILED.
The other day, Cheese hung out in the bed with us all afternoon. I declared him "Mayor McCheesers," and decided to make him a tiny top hat. My first one wasn't very good. I made it with construction paper and clear packing tape, almost completely finishing it before deciding that I could do better...so I did. For my 2nd hat, I added black electrical tape and used hot glue to reinforce the top and brim.
Yes, I am proud that I have the ability to make a decent tiny top hat whenever I feel like it! Among other things, of course. I'm glad to be crafty! Cheese is...probably less glad.
Here's Mayor McCheesers complete with scarf, award-winning top hat, and fancy mayoral staff. Being the mayor is hard work and requires LOTS of naps.
Here's the bigger version. (The smaller one was re-sized to go outside the cut and not ruin your friends pages.)
Here's his wardrobe, mostly handmade in a short amount of time.
The top hat is made from construction paper and clear packing tape, just like the 1st attempt, but for this one I added electrical tape and used hot glue to reinforce it. I even made him a medal from a brad and some more construction paper.
The crown is made from construction paper and packing tape. The jewels were drawn on to colored electrical tape and then stuck on the crown. The staff is a fast food straw with a piece from a board game glued to the tip. The scarf is a scrap of fabric which I colored with sharpie marker, and the cowboy hat is actually a vintage Barbie accessory. I've had it for a few years, but I've never used it on any of my rats because I didn't want it to get ruined. I'm pretty sure Cheesers is too tired and apathetic to destroy any of his props like he wouldn't have hesitated to do in his youth!
My 1st attempt at a goofy face, but the flash didn't go off. He kinda looks like a hamster.
Sleeping Cowboy.
Add a mustache and you get a Sleepy Bandito!
After a cheeseburger eating contest...or something along those lines.
I like this pic because you can see how much work I put into the top hat. But the Mayor cares not for fake cheeseburgers!
...Unlike Miss Bailey Burgles, who spent at least 15 minutes stealing the same fake cheeseburger over and over again.
Oh, look! He woke up a little bit for this one. Probably because the top-hat is top-heavy (lol.) It wasn't staying on. You can see the tip of my finger at the top of the photo.
The mustache isn't balanced quite as good as it could've been, but for an electrical tape 'stashe, it held its own fairly well. The flash didn't go off for this picture so it looks a little different. I'm not sure whether I think it's better or worse.
Mayor Mustache.
Typical goofy face here, but you can also tell he's kind of annoyed. Not that he did anything to retaliate, unless you count being super compliant and taking as many naps as possible.
Or maybe he did that time. He looks really unhappy here, but what we were doing was FAR from animal cruelty so I don't feel bad about it. My rats crave attention, so sometimes they have to make sacrifices in order to get it. I hope you guys were entertained. :)
