It's always white light, when they meet. They never speak, but when they kiss he holds her so gently as if he's frightened he'll break her. His hands are roughened and he smells of blood and sweat and earth.
Her skin is soft and her hair tangles in his fingers, but he can feel the strength in her arms and back.
Sometimes they screw up against the wall and she clutches his shoulders and leaves scratches on his damp skin; bites and licks and throws her head back revelling in the sweat and dirt and how she must look, how no one would recognise the sweet-natured, pure-hearted princess of Etheria.
Sometimes they make love on the floor and he lies there as she caresses him and leads him and calls him further on, further in, and all he is expected to do is follow, lay down his arms and forget about playing the hero, forget he's the Eternian champion who saves the universe and be naked, be nothing.
They never talk, afterwards, but dress again in their roles and walk out into reality.
