3 short ones today, so I decided to put them all in one post.
Fandom 2: Saiyuki (manga)
Rating: PG for violence and suicide

It was all so easy. That surprised him; he'd always assumed that if you were going to kill someone, the difficult part - the part where you stopped and thought and maybe held back - would be the actual killing. But it hadn't been. The point at which his mind had cried out wait had been when he'd grabbed for the knife in the first place. For one moment he'd frozen and - perhaps he'd known that once he had the blade in his hand there wouldn't be another chance -
But then he'd remembered that if he let go of it now, he would have to face reality without her, and so he'd hung on.
Had it been like that for Kanan when she grabbed the knife? The tipping point? She hadn't seemed to hesitate when she'd driven the blade into her stomach, but then she hadn't hesitated when she'd taken it from his belt either. No, it must have been different. After all, he'd had her loss to spur him on. She'd only had his loss to hold her back.

Oh, sure, Andrew appreciates the offer to talk about the Trauma Of Life On The Streets. But it's not like he'll ever take it up, because... his mom just won't get it, will she? As long as he can remember, she's been all keep the house clean and make the small talk and scrub the skirting board, even the parts hidden behind furniture because there can never, ever, if-we-break-this-rule-something-terrible-will-happen, be any mess.
How can he explain to her that despite the cold and the hunger and the weird half-angry half-triumphant glow from doing stuff for money, there was always the satisfaction that finally his surroundings - grimy pavements and old newspapers, piles of litter, mouldy bread and clothes stiff with dirt - matched reality, and there wasn't anything to hide?

She is beautiful in the evening when she sits and sips tea and he watches her as the steam curls and fades away.
And she is beautiful at night, when she pushes her hair out of her face and holds it back in a topknot, becoming again the soldier from the mountain.
