I had to force myself to click the cut for the first one because I really don't get on with Lord of the Flies. (too painful) But it was brilliant (and nearly as painful as the book).
And the second one was devastatingly sad too. I think I'll go and cry now, please.
The first one is a really good character study - I really like the 'actually, I'm not sorry' attitude coming off it. And the second one is sad and hurts, but is very controlled too.
The execution was supposed to be symbolic. Whether or not they would have actually executed him, I'm not sure. I think that, in England, they raised the minimum age for the death penalty to 18 either during the 30's or the 40's. If it was the 40's, and Jack, Ralph and the other survivors pushed their liability onto Roger, then he could have been hanged, because that's when the book was set.
