Courses, training, work and writing. I am going to have to leave reading other entries until the end of this torturous month. :) Anyway...
Title: Golden Idol
Fandom: Tomb Raider (plus mentions from Uncharted and Malory Towers...vaguely...due to a comment from versipellis during 12daysofchristmas)
Rating: G
Summary: Who knew archeology was so competitive?
Lara slowed to a jog as she reached the bottom of the stone steps and allowed herself a smile. Everything looked undisturbed.
“Looks like we got here first”
“Yeah well, don't go be all sure about yourself yet. Remember Mexico?”, Zip's voice crackled in her earpiece and Lara smirked as she took the steps two at a time.
“Yes, well, I've learnt not to be quite so self-assured since then Zip”, Lara paused and squinted into the shadows beside the steps. She quickly stuck her arm out, the recoiled it as soon as the familiar sound of an arrow being let loose twanged through the small room.
“These architects and their arrow traps...”, she murmured as she finished climbing the steps.
“The idol still there?”
“Course it is”, Lara walked around the pedestal and checked for further traps. Even though it had taken over four hours to get through the temple, it wouldn't surprise her if there was something else waiting to kill her.
“Sure it's not a fake?”
“Zip that happened once, and yes, I will concede that Miss Johns is smarter than your average treasure hunter...”,
“...archeologist...”, Zip corrected her as she slowly lifted the bronzed idol from its place on the pedestal,
“...but I've had rivals for years and all but Nathan Drake have either gotten themselves killed or retired”.
“Jeesh, someone's touchy”, and Lara chuckled at Zip's words, “I take it you have the idol then? On your way back?”
Lara slid the idol into her backpack and, after a moment's hesitation, took out a notepad and pen, quickly scrawled onto the first page 'Better luck next time - L', tore it out and placed it on the pedestal. She felt a strange twange,
“I almost feel bad that she's going to have gone through all of this for nothing...”
“Probably because she's one of only two other archeologists who haven't tried to kill you”, Zip yawned, “suck it up and get on back here already”. Lara dug once more into her backpack and pulled out one of the smaller statues she had found in the burial chambers. She placed it on top of the note and then hurried back down the stairs.
Title: Last Year's Model
Fandom: Uncharted
Rating: G
Summary: Every encounter with Drake seemed to end in guns and near death experiences.
“You could never be just last year's model, you know that right?”, Drake grabbed Elena's wrist as they lay crumpled on the snow. Elena gulped in air and cast a quick glance at the cliff edge that their truck had just been rammed over. She breathed out shakily and tried to rid herself of the cool shudder that traced her spine.
“It was a joke Nate”, she pushed herself up to sit, and tried to pull Drake up beside her, “I wasn't sat at home mooning over the great Nathan Drake”. She could have sworn that Drake pouted at her comment,
“I'm trying to be sincere here”, Drake lowered his hold on her wrist to take her hand instead.
“You do it about as well as you do subtle”, Elena gave his hand a gently squeeze.
“Don't I at least get points for trying?”
“What are we going to do now?”, Elena ignored his question and asked one of her own with a vague gesture towards.
Drake sat up beside her and looked towards the direction Lazarevic's men had gone and then threw his arm out in that direction,
“To the creepy monastery, where else?”, and then he got to his feet, “You ready?”
Elena sighed, wished one more time that she had decided to stay in Florida and chosen to do a story on one of the violent criminals there instead of chasing one half-way around the world, then got up,
“As I'll ever be”
