Title: Sleep
Fandom: Jurassic Park
Rating: G
Word Count: 100
Summary: Ellie tries to sleep.
Ellie couldn’t sleep.
She knew that she should try. She knew that in a bad situation, it was important that you got what rest you could and prepared yourself for the next event. Who knew what the morning would bring? Malcolm was already badly hurt, Generao was dead … Alan and the kids …
She didn’t want to think about that. She couldn’t think about that. Sleep. Sleep was important, rest was important. Alan would agree. Wherever he was right now, he would have found himself somewhere to rest. Somewhere safe. He would be fine.
She had to believe that.
Title: Christmas Spirit
Fandom: Inspector Morse
Rating: G
Word Count: 367
Summary: Strange has a request. Lewis doesn't exactly mind ...
When Strange called him to his office, Lewis knew what it was about before he’d closed the door.
“Lewis,” Strange said in that very hearty way that he had. “How are things?”
“Going fine, thank you Sir,” Lewis said, wondering faintly if this was a moment that a different man might try to wrangle a bribe.
“Looking forward to Christmas?”
“Yes Sir,” Lewis said, with a small sigh.
“Good, that’s good!” Strange said brightly. He paused, then lower his voice slightly. “Lewis … well, I think he needs a holiday and well, you know he’d never admit it but he is fond of you … ”
“Aye, I know,” Lewis said. “I’ll invite him for Christmas.”
Not that it was really the worst thing, he supposed. Morse wasn’t bad as a visitor. He found the kids a bit difficult sometimes but he tended to be good at the washing up if he was actually in Lewis’s house. His Christmas presents were always generous. He got involved with whatever was happening, a bit shyly but he did.
No, the worst thing about inviting Morse for Christmas was that Morse did not want to be invited.
“It’s not very convenient.”
“Are you doing something else?” Lewis asked.
“Well, nothing specific … have you checked with your wife? I’m sure she’ll want to see her mother … ”
“Boxing Day,” Lewis said firmly.
“You’ll want Christmas with the kids … ”
“Ah, they’ll enjoy seeing you, having a little break from us. Look, between you and me, Val’s really looking forward to having you - I think she’s dreading Christmas with just the same old faces.”
If there was one thing that Morse was almost always unable to resist, it was the idea of helping a woman in need. Val nearly laughed herself sick when Lewis sheepishly told her what he had said.
“Ah well,” she said. “Bless his heart. I’m glad to have him, Robbie, don’t worry. He’s a good man.”
“He is,” Lewis agreed, giving her a hug. “But I do hope he doesn’t buy me Mahler again. Don’t know what that’s about.”
“Maybe he hopes it’ll grow on you,” Val suggested.
Lewis just raised an eyebrow at her.
