Title: Explaining Valentine's Day
Fandom: Angel
Rating: PG
Word Count: 193
Summary: Illyria has a question. Spike's answer is unsatisfying.
“What is Valentine’s Day?” Illyria asked.
“It’s a day for showing everyone how popular you are,” Spike said, eying his card thoughtfully, then adding another heart-shaped sticker to it. Over-kill? Nah. Girls liked hearts, didn’t they? Well, Dru had liked them still beating but that wasn’t really the kind of display he was going for …
“I do not understand.” Illyria said blankly.
“It’s a day when you send cards and flowers and stuff to whoever you fancy,” Spike explained patiently. “Then hopefully, you get laid because they fancy you back.”
He opened the card and wrote Dear Spike at the top. Ought he write dearest? Nah, bit too sickly. He wanted this to be from a bird with some class.
“Why are you sending a card to yourself?” Illyria questioned.
“To annoy Angel,” Spike said happily. He was sure that he would receive some cards of course - why wouldn’t he? But just in case someone broke into the post room and stole them all, it seemed worth having a little back-up. It would really bug Angel if Spike had a card and he didn’t.
“I do not understand humanity,” Illyria said crossly.
