Title: Sulking and Sparkling

Summary: Tom Barnaby discovers something about his daughter that greatly saddens him. This is based on my own personal universe where Tom Barnaby is a vampire. (sometimes, I forget to mention this because in my mind, it has long become canon)
“This is the worst thing that has happened to me in my entire life,” Tom Barnaby announced, staring at his daughter in horror.
“Oh, thanks Dad,” Cully said. “No, really. That makes me feel good about myself.”
“But it’s a disaster! Look at you! You … no one will ever take me seriously again!”
“Darling, I’m sure that it won’t be a problem,” Joyce said comfortingly. “I thought you’d be pleased anyway. You always seemed a little sad that Cully hadn’t inherited your unique condition.”
“I wanted her to be a vampire like me,” Barnaby said sulkily. “Not … not this.”
“I didn’t choose it!” Cully protested. “It just sort of … happened!”
“How does one accidentally become a vampire?!” Barnaby demanded. “And more importantly, how does one accidentally become a vampire that sparkles?”
“I think the sparkles are lovely,” Joyce said, smiling happily. “She looks beautiful. I wish you sparkled, Tom.”
“I … you want me to go around, looking like that? No one would ever take me seriously! I would be judged!”
“I didn’t know your reputation was so important to you,” Cully said sulkily, folding her arms and slumping down on the couch like a grumpy teenager.
“There are many vampires out there who respect me!” Barnaby informed her. “Now with you sparkling all over the place, I will be a laughing stock amongst people! What will my colleagues say?”
“Tom,” Joyce said. “Sometimes you are not very supportive of our daughter. It’s quite normal, you know.”
“Normal? Normal? She sparkles!”
“And I get a super-power!” Cully said smugly. “You don’t have any super-powers.”
“A super-power?” Joyce said. “Oh darling, how wonderful. What is it?”
“I don’t know yet. I’m hoping for something good like mind reading or thought projection. They would help with the acting.”
Barnaby stomped off into the other room to sulk.
