Title Porcelain Doll
Fandom: Tokyo Babylon
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Seishiro likes to watch Subaru when he sleeps.

Subaru-kun looked like a doll when he slept.

Seishiro often slipped into his apartment to watch him sleep. It amused him to see Subaru-kun lying so vulnerable and helpless, stirring in his sleep uncertainly when Seishiro moved closer and knelt by the bed. Seishiro never worried that his pray might wake. Even if he did, it would be simple for Seishiro to send him back into a dark, memoryless sleep. No, there was nothing to worry about when he wanted to watch Subaru-kun.

He sometimes even took it a little further, stroking the pale skin and dark hair. It was interesting touching Subaru-kun. When Subaru-kun was awake, he touched him enough to imply his interest and enough to baffle him and please Hokuto-chan but it always had to be carefully choreographed. Alone, it was different. He could really get a feel for the boy, test the strength of the skin and feel that soft, heavy pulse beat beneath his fingers. Seishiro didn’t allow himself to do that too often. It sometimes reminded him how easy it would be just to move forwards a little and squeeze and snap - and that pulse beat would be gone forever.

Once, he had surrendered to that a little. He’d let his fingers curve around Subaru-kun’s soft throat and squeezed the tiniest bit. Subaru-kun had whimpered and scrabbled in his sleep, his pulse beating faster beneath Seishiro’s fingers. So fragile, so delicate. Shouldn’t the Sumeragi heir be slightly stronger?

It suited Seishiro that he wasn’t. It suited him to have this porcelain doll lying before him, harmless and fragile. To some men, he supposed it would have tugged on their heartstrings, encouraged them to want to protect the little thing, made them fall in love. To Seishiro, it was pathetic and amusing, nothing more. Something to laugh at when he shattered that delicacy, that naivety. That was all.

“Seishiro-san?” Subaru-kun murmured, bewildered and sleepy. “Why …?”

Seishiro brushed his fingers over Subaru-kun’s eyes and the boy was asleep instantly, relaxed and limp. Smiling, Seishiro let his fingers trail down that snowy throat again, feeling for the pulse.

It wasn’t that long before the year was up. Not that long before he could shatter the porcelain doll.

He was looking forward to it.
