Happy 2009, everyone!

And now, some cool things about pomegranate seedlings:

* Of the 15 germinated seeds that I transferred to soil, 10 have pushed above the dirt.
* One was growing downwards, with its taproot in the air, until I righted it. (How do plants determine which way is "up", anyway?)
* Pomegranate cotyledons grow in a spiral inside the seed. They then untwirl slowly, pushing off the seedcoat.
* My four strongest seedlings have already completely untwirled, and are working on a second pair of leaves.
