[Before heading out for the day's errands, Japan leaves a message on the network.]

Pardon my intrusion, but I find myself curious...

How many of you here work with electronics on a normal basis?

[With that, Japan takes Pochi and his journal and heads out across town. He can be found in the grocery store getting food for the Phantomhive house, ( Read more... )

[Just strollin' on by the square here, on her way to the grocery store... when she's struck by an oddly familiar feeling. She stops, giving Japan an odd look. Where the hell does she know this guy from? She hasn't seen him before, right? Why is this so familiar...

Frowning thoughtfully, she decides she'll speak up rather than just be That Weird One-Armed Chick Staring.]

Oi. I don't think that dog is learning much of anything.

[Pochi is just sitting and wagging his tail at all of Japan's efforts, so yes, Baiken, you are right. The dog isn't learning much of anything mostly because Pochi doesn't care about shaking hands. He cares about wagging his tail and now he cares about yipping at Baiken in greeting.

Japan sighs.]

I am afraid you are right... I thought I could teach him one of the tricks I see America-san's ani-- [Here, he turns to see who he's talking to, only to freeze at finding Baiken right there. akjdf;a Right. Acting normal again.] --mals do. He doesn't seem to be taking to them.

[She caught that slight snag, but she's too busy with a) an overwhelming feeling that she knows this guy, and b) getting hung up on where she knows "America" from. Wasn't that what they used to call A-Country?]

"America-san", huh. Kind of a weird name for someone.

[She pauses, the small frown twitching a little lower. The familiarity is starting to bug her.] ...What kind of trick were you trying to teach it, anyway?

[After talking to Ryoga and having him freak out, Japan is a bit more wary about revealing country status.]

...It is normal for where I come from.

[Pochi gives up trying to learn and goes over to Baiken, wagging his tail, meaning Japan gives up and stands, patting his clothes back into place.]

Shaking hands. America-san's animals are so good at it.

[Somebody from the Colony, maybe? No, no. She knows every face in the Colony. But the feeling is very similar to the Colony. He can't be someone she knew before that. Just not possible. Absently, Baiken reaches down and tousles Pochi's ears as she tries to place this feeling. What is this, sudden homesickness?]

Seems like a pretty useless trick. Maybe that's why it doesn't care. [Count on someone from A-country to teach all their pets something like that.]

...Everybody named for countries where you're from?

[Pochi is a little offput to be touched so soon, but he withstands it like a true Japanese man dog and then sniffs at Baiken's hand.]

...................................... [S-sob. How you break his heart, Baiken. Also, he has no idea what to tell you about the names.]

Ah....not...everybody.

[Rather disinterested in what the dog is up to now, Baiken's lone eye narrows slightly as she gives its owner a thoughtful look. He's not human. She can tell that much. Not human, and familiar. What in the hell.]

...So what's your name, then?

[She's onto you, Japan.]

Honda Kiku. [One corner of her mouth twitches. For as overly cautious as she's being, for some reason, this familiar feeling is starting to make her relax a bit.]

...Name's Baiken.

[Nnnngh, he feels like he's lying...]

It is an honor to meet you, Baiken-san. [And while he's bowing, he'll also say in a very small voice:]

I am otherwise known as Japan.

[She's about to give a short bow of her own -- pretty tremendous recognition from her grumpy self -- when she stops dead. And stares.

...That would explain the familiar feeling, but... how? Just... how does that even work?!]

....What?

"Otherwise known as" -- [She actually looks bewildered. She's met some damn weird creatures in her time, but this is knocking her for a loop.]

...What are you?

You... how the hell is that even possible?! [Despite the harsh words, she's still sounding more bewildered than anything.]

It is...complicated. To put it simply, I am the representation of the Nation and thus I am Japan.
