Early morning lesson and skate with Coach L this Monday morning. I don't know how you morning skaters do it - it was seriously difficult to get going and moving this morning! Finally I shoved my MP3 player in my ears and put on Dutch Waltz music, and that finally got me to move my stiff body and get somewhat warmed up. We spent most of the lesson on back 3s and then 3s in the field. I'm turning the 3s reliably but I tend to lurch forward afterwards. When I don't lurch forward, my free leg drifts off to the side like a dog marking its territory. I can only seem to control one thing at a time! The good (or at least less than bad) news is that I seem to have better flow than I did before, but I'm not sure that counts if I can't hold the damn back 3...
We finished up with spins, which has pretty seriously regressed, but we made some progress on getting them back where they belong. Both Coach L and DB have talked about "snapping the hip" and I finally figured out what they mean - for me it's more about snapping the *knee* so that I'm standing tall on it.
Skate again Wednesday, when I have a jumping lesson with Coach C. I've a surfeit of lessons this week; must figure out a real schedule for the next 16 weeks or whatever this semester works out to be.
