RED's eyes followed the bird as it was tucked away. Making the most of it while he could- as much as a part of him still fought the notion of pursuing anything with Pyro at all, he knew BLU was right, being the one with the experience. It was apparent that whatever he'd had was gone; the man sitting before him, while still the same person, had been changed by the losses he'd suffered. As much as RED could see himself in his rival at times, he did not want to be the broken man he'd seen on the communicator. He'd been there once already, and it was an experience he hoped to never repeat.

He closed his eyes again, listening to the sounds all around them, letting each sensation- the smell of water, heat of the sun on his skin, grass teasing his fingers as they settled on the ground- relax him, return him to the wild, to the Outback, to home. Though he wanted it, he had to settle for the now: there was no going back- not for himself, and not with Pyro. He could deny how he felt all day to everyone else, but denying it to himself was a fruitless effort. Perhaps he shouldn't have gotten mixed up with her at all, but the fact was that he had, and he couldn't change that by simply ignoring all that compelled him to be with her. He was a selfish creature; denying himself what he felt he needed only made him more insatiable, pushing him to fight harder to have it.

And in this case, what he wanted, needed, and was denying himself was her. He'd buckled beneath the weight of loss when it came to her already. The only direction he could move was forward; there was no going back. Just as BLU had been changed by his loss, RED could already see the change in himself as he shifted from a solitary person to one wanting that company, that attention from Pyro. It was easier not to get involved, yes, but he was and couldn't see himself going back now that he'd had a taste of what he'd been missing.

Making the most of it. He nodded, smile returning- he'd have a go at it. "Guess I should get to work on that, then."

"Aces mate. It's all worth it." He stood up, putting his hat back on and reeling in his empty fishing line. Gathering the few fish he had caught in a bucket he turned towards the truck. "I know it ain't real but..." His smile was bittersweet as he glanced back at RED before walking away towards the truck. "Can't blame me fer wantin' it t' be."

RED said nothing, his only response returning that smile to his rival. He tried to keep his nose out of BLU's private life, but what little he did know of it spoke volumes: there had been better times for him. Who could blame him for wanting them back? Not RED, certainly. He'd been fighting since his arrival in Paradise to return to the times he preferred, back where he had his job and hardly a worry in the world, save for what a disappointment he was to his parents.

Of course, there was no going back sometimes- not with Pyro and himself, and not with BLU and the life he'd once had. All they could do was keep moving and adapt to the world as it moved around them. It was easier said than done, but if BLU could manage, then so could he.
