Katie, 2-26-97 to 6-14-12

So today was the day we had to put her down. She'd been doing pretty good since the diagnosis on her medication and her "eat anything she wants to" diet. She enjoyed her last few days with a selection of Black Angus t-bone, ground sirloin, shrimp, bacon, milk, and whatever little bit of wet cat food she decided was palatable. Unfortunately, the tumor kept growing and last night she headed downhill fast. I took my mom and Katie to the vet this afternoon and had my heart shredded twice, once for the kitty I've known and loved for all of her 15 years and once again for my mother who is grieving more than she ever has, with the exception of her own mother's death a few years ago.

My two remaining kitties, one of which is Katie's sister, also seem to be going through some hard times by the sudden loss in their hierarchy. I know eventually things will start to feel like a new "normal" for all of us but it's going to be some rough times ahead.
