This is the front yard of the house I grew up in:

It sure wasn't much. But I have fond memories. For a while we only had a bathtub (no shower) and my Mom says when they moved in circa 1963, NO indoor toilet! yay.. ;)

I remember it being very cold, poorly insulated. And frost on the windows during winter. We had an old wood cook stove in the kitchen and once you got a fire going in that thing, the whole house was HOT for hours... and you could hardly stand in the kitchen. It was amazing.

I don't know what the house looks like now. I know that Weeping Willow isn't there anymore, my Dad cut it down before we moved, it's roots were getting in the plumbing.

I love trips down memory lane too. I've not lived in that house since 1978.

You may not have had insulation--but you had a PONY!! (or a neighbor did). I would have traded insulation for a pony ANY DAY! (I did eventually get a horse, thanks to my dad). The old 5th St. house was SO old and icky when we moved in that you could hear the RATS in the walls...like I said...it has not been lived in for many years. I remember the old white dingy venetian blinds in EVERY room, the musky smell...the dirty rooms we weren't allowed in...and the basement...a scary place...but it had once had a neato train set up and a billard table! But to us it was a dark scary basement.
thanks for sharing your front yard...and your pony!

Candy!! A rescue-rehome Welch Pony with Attitude (with a capitol A!)
She was 18 when we took her from a neighbor who was moving to the city. I was 8. She was 100X smarter than me! But I loved her lots. It was rare to be able to get a saddle on her, so I did a lot of bareback riding. She scared the crap out of my sister so she basically became MINE...

When we moved, we left her on the farm with the new owners. They never rode her (she was nearly 30 then) and they helped her live a long life. Finally had her put down when she lost the last of her teeth. 32? 33? something like that.
Those ponies last a LONG time!

Love the picture of the dogs on the dune with the bridge in the background. I will be traveling to Oregon in April. I hope to see some of these cool places. Your childhood home was beautiful.

The bridge is on Hwy 101, it's the entrance to North Bend, McCullough Bridge, 1 mile long. This dune area is usually covered with ATV'ers in the summer, but in winter, they stay home, and I get to roam! You can stay at the old house if you come thru here...it's called Coos Bay Manor B & B, a lovely old home with very nice owners. and let me know when you come thru--I'm a great tour guide, having lived here most of my life!

That is a beautiful old home! Fun to go through memories.
I hope you got a break in the rain like we did today!
