I miss X-files. Still, after how many years, I find myself, 9:00 Sunday night, being plagued by a vague sense of having something I should be doing. I wonder sometimes if that show really was a one time quality aberration in television history and there will never be anything so consistently well-written and interesting. Except for the last season. I try to watch stuff with the kids once in a while but I find myself so infuriated at the level of crapdom that it's probably best for everyone if I just slip silently out of the room and leave them to it.

N.B. watching hockey on TV doesn't count because there is no writing involved nor do I find myself looking for thematic elements or inner depth. Hockey is just men smashing into each other with a purpose more clearly defined than in football.

Saw A Knight's Tale last week and loved it, then found random references to it on someone's journal today. Oddness. However, I did love this movie, which I wouldn't have put money on during the opening Queen crowd scene. It came up in a discussion of knightly behaviour in class a few weeks ago and now that I've seen it, I find it ridiculous that graduate students in English literature were put off by the anachronisms in the movie. Well, yes, I believe crowds did not sing along to We will Rock in the early thirteen hundreds. And chicks didn't wear see-through gowns or wear Ascot hats to tournaments, either. Allegory...remember that? Perhaps I'll be okay in this class after all. Being out of school for twelve years hasn't blunted my ability to internally enjoy irony.
