We had a nice little trip to Labor and Delivery this morning. I started having some nice uncomfortable contractions that didn't go away after chugging a litre of water and full-on rest. Called them, they said try another litre of water and call us in an hour.
What happens FIVE MINUTES after I hang up? Power goes off due to a huge windstorm that has been going all night and morning ( and has only tapered off slightly). No phone, no power. So I take a hot bath, helps a little, then try to get some sleep but end up just doing my best to remember to breathe. Called back after the power came back, by that time blood was showing up on the tissue so they had me call Gary to bring me in for a little monitoring.
I was afraid I'd look like a jackass, but it turns out that I really am contracting and I'm dilated 2 centimeters and the cervix is 50% effaced (thinned). So they said no way am I making it to next Saturday. I still carried out my plan of going to Sears with Patsy and Diane, walked through the contractions (I turn red in the face, they thought it was funny) and made it home with baby intact.
Diane says she will be surprised if I last 48 hours. That isn't an option! Mom comes Saturday so Mia is grounded in utero until AFTER 10pm Saturday night.
Then she has my blessings for all systems go.
And Gary is wonderful. He's so calm and soothing and excited.
Kay. Going to wallow in hot water and whine a little, then get back to the hardcore nesting that set in last night. God help the dustbunnies.
