Belgarion flung the letter aside with uncharacteristic vehemence. The only reason he didn't succumb to a litany of sulfurous oaths was the pair of green eyes that curiously followed his movement. (The Prince Geran has spent time with the less couth members of the court---not to mention Grolims and priestesses with megalomaniac tendencies---and was not as interested as his sister.)

"What's wrong, your Majesty?" came the calm reason of his queen.

"Your great baron knight is out unnecessarily championing people again," he grounded out through clenched teeth.

"The Lord Mandorallen can't help it," she said with an almost rueful sigh. The dainty handkerchief might have made an appearance for effect, if not for the fact she was nursing their third child. "The man is the very pillar of virtue, after all."

"Is that what it is?" the king said, deceptively mild. "I thought all that honor stuff was the iron rusting into their skulls."

"Don't be snide, Garion. It is your name he's defending."

"I've really got to get rid of that 'Overlord of the West' bit." The grousing continued. "Kail? Where are you? I'm going to Vo Mimbre!"

"I think you have at least half his virtue, dear," his wife called out after him. "It's quite honorable of you to join them."

Garion came thumping back almost immediately.

"Yes, dear?"

"They can settle it themselves," he muttered.

"Good boy," Ce'nedra approved. "Now, if you don't mind, I have this stitch on my back I can't quite reach. . ."
