First entry here.

All right... just joined last night and I finished this earlier this morning. I'd really appreciate moderate reviews here- I'd like to know what I'm doing right and what's not so right.

Title: Beginnings
Genre(s): Romance/Humor/Introspection
Rating: PG-13 for a brief spot language
Themes: #1- The First Time
Author: lovelessangel88/Solaris Moon (my ff.net penname)
Author's Notes: Fluffy little piece, mixed perspectives- switches from brother to future lover in the middle. Would like moderate feedback on this.
Summary: The first time she breathed, the first time she felt, the first time he couldn't be there for her... she'd been a survivor since day one, right?

The first time she had breathed, she had immediately let it right back out in an ear-piercing shriek. He’d been surprised to remember this later, but it was one of his most prominent memories. He couldn’t even remember if he’d breathed first- it stood to reason one of them had to be the older twin, after all- but he did remember her shriek, that cry that elates parents, yet somehow makes siblings wish for the muscle control to smack the living daylights out of the screamer and the voice control to say ‘shut the hell up’. Of course, then he saw her- he remembered that quite clearly. Still flushed red, still a gooey mess, still shrieking for all her little three-minute-old lungs could give, and all he wanted was to grasp her hand and comfort her. This memory only took a moment in recollection but was still something precious to him.

The first time she’d cried had been at not-quite-two, he remembered that quite clearly too. She’d taken her first steps and thought she was up to running only a few days later. Unfortunately, hills and chubby little infant legs couldn’t support her, and she’d fallen. That same shriek he remembered from birth caught him again, and he’d found his sister, his shrieks joining hers alerting their mother that something was not quite right. She’d been patched up easily… come to think of it, that was the first day he’d said her name, wasn’t it? ‘Izumi’… almost an incantation that calmed her for a bit.

Only days later she’d said his name for the first time- ‘Hiroshi’. Like some kind of magic spell that only they could access. Like something that only they could understand. And the key to every almost-identical twin’s favorite game, ‘mess with mommy’s head’.

The first time he regretted he couldn’t be there for her was also the last regret he ever had. As he left the mortal plane, three tears escaped his eyes- one for his parents, who would lose their only son, one for his cousin, who had counted on him to help him escape the drudgery of daily life in a small, backwater town… and one for his sister, who would never be able to turn to her brother again. One tear for Izumi became several, and as he died tears were flowing out of his eyes like rain. No one would ever know this fact, due to the circumstances of his death, but he knew.

The first time Reno saw her, he thought she was just a child who’d wandered into the wrong place. But no, she was there for open call for the Turk corps. Such a tiny thing, a slip of a girl, looking out of place in what he later found out was a pair of her brother’s jeans and one of her father’s old t-shirts that had shrunk in the wash. Izumi Saikai ended up not only acing the interview (code for brutal obstacle course that had SOLDIER recruits crying home to their mothers) but Judo-throwing him for startling her. He had to admit after time, though… she really grew on him.

The first time she smiled at him, he had fallen off her bunk in the barracks. He had ostensibly come to present her with a huge bag of her favorite sweets- some wax bottles he’d found in a candy store in Junon. The bag had held that… and the distinctive in its anonymity uniform of the Turks. She’d looked in the bag in shock, turned those stunning violet eyes to him, and upon confirmation that that uniform was indeed hers, had smiled. He’d literally fallen to the hard concrete barracks floor, and then heard her giggle for the first time. As he lay there trying to regain his bearings, he thought it wouldn’t be so bad working with her.

He hoped that maybe he could see more firsts with her…

He didn’t know that perhaps, her own brother was watching them from the Lifestream, assessing this red-headed menace’s impact on his beloved sister’s life.

More to come soon, I hope! ^_^
