Prompt 30: Never Look Back -- Because Once, We Were Close -- Part 2

He smiles, then frowns, realizing that his joke was not in the best of taste. I return his smile, though, not offended in the least. “It’s for Kikre,” I tell him.

He shakes his head. “Don’t worry about Kikre. She’s not worth your time.”

It’s incredible how he thinks his joke might be offensive but doesn’t stop to ( Read more... )

Yeah, sorry, LOL. It can be confusing but I don't want to clutter up narrative with the basics 0.0 I can explain if you want 0.0 but yeah I can see how it can be confusing. This stuff floats around in my head for so long that I don't remember that maybe I made it up and should explain? LOL.

I'm sort-of envisioning Assera as early-Soviet Russia, -- only where the revolution actually worked, LOL. I didn't really come up with that until halfway through this piece but as I'm obsessed with Russia it only figures, but I'm like, gee, enormous country, with an uneducated, very religious populace, revolutionaries who are completely Marxist ... well, we have Russia, do we not? 0.0

Yeah, but talking about inventing genres, I had no idea what genre to call this -- it's not fantasy but it's not historical fiction, it's just me making up enough so that I can play with big ideas like political upheaval in a fictional context -- "alternate historical fiction?" ... 0.0

I'm glad you like the story, though, and their relationships! :) Thanks for reading!

Go get coffee! where is it 7 pm now anyway? It's 11:20 for me and I'm in France ... :P

Alternate historical fiction works. ^^

All right. I've got it now. [I also have the coffee. With whipped cream. Buaha.] I know Russia. Yeah. History's one of my obsessions, but I could have made the same connection with the French Revolution. [with the story, I mean. Without your info. Ugh. You get me, I'm sure.]

I'm in Puerto Rico. ^^ And my clock was wrong. It's 6:30 pm. :S My brain is on crack and my inner clock decided to hit up the meth guy on the corner. *shakes head*

Hehe, cool. I never do know what to call these things. Some people are apt to say fantasy but I hold that it's not fantasy if it doesn't involve magic or magical creatures and all of my stuff could happen in the real world, I think anyhow... :P

Yay for coffee! And getting it :P I love history, 20th century in particular but really all history. Considering Assera Russia does solve some of the anachronism problems, because in Russia you can have feudalism (even though serfdom ended before the revolution by a while...) and 20th-century style revolution going on at the same time. My date in my head for this is 1630 or '40 something, but I'm like ... yeah, uh, no. Notice I didn't put the date on the story :P

Ahhh, Puerto Rico :) Are you on the same time zone as like, New York, or Halifax? (Do you know?) 6 to eleven -- let's see -- I think you're on the same time zone as Halifax but I don't know :P

We're an hour behind Halifax, actually. It makes flying to DC a pain in the ass. And no, it ain't fantasy. This doesn't qualify. For me, too, anyways.

[Coffee rules the world!]

I just finished studying Russia in my World History class. I have to take a test on it on Thursday. -_- ew. If that was Russia that would be before the Mongol invasion with Kiev as a major power. :) [note: yes. I study wherever I can get my kicks out of it. lol.]

Ahh ... and do you go to DC often? I'm from California but I go to New York pretty often -- and now I'm living in France -- then this summer I went to Russia so I'm used to long trips.

Yeah, I wouldn't call it fantasy. My mom thinks I write fantasy but she doesn't even read my stuff. Then again, she thinks I write fanfiction, which other than a few terrible attempts has never been true 0.0 She reads fanfiction, though, so I'm not sure her assumptions are meant to be insulting. She reads Jane Austen fanfiction LOL.

Yay for coffee! I've become addicted to coffee this year 0.0 I'm not that happy about that, as I rather liked being able to tell people that I just enjoyed it and wasn't dependant, but heh...

Funny story -- this fall I was at my friend Yuliya's house, I told her this about coffee and she told me that she wasn't dependant either but sometimes she drank it when she needed to wake up... then ten minutes later she complained of a headache and made some coffee for herself -- headache went away, so evidently she, too, is addicted. Oh well, all around!

Ahhh, the Kievan Rus. I don't know much about that era in particular but that is cool. world history? Are you a history major? Or are you in high school? *Is curious...* I'm a 2nd-year college student :)

Sorry. Switch DC for Illinois. :S They're TWO hours behind. blah. [Of course, I can't talk. o.O you're in FRANCE. That's so far away for me!]

Ah Jane Austen.

I don't like her. Kay.

High school. I graduate next year. Dunno what I want to study either. Or where. ^^ I'm so totally prepared for life.

Your friend is addicted. We can stark a "Coffee Addicted" club. :p

Ahhh... well, wherever you go, then. I thought I was good at time zones, keeping in touch with my family and all, but then I'm like, talking with friends in Japan (I randomly have many there...) and I keep asking them what time it is there even though they've told me the difference a million times.

Haha, to each his own, right? I'm not a huge fan or anything but I like her work well enough. I like the movies, but I've sort-of grown up on those.

Haha, don't you have to be making applications to universities soon? Good luck with all of that. My sister is also in her 2nd to last year of high school and she's working on all that now.

I know, we are all addicted. will be interesting in Russia next year as they drink more tea there then coffee. I think coffee addiction could make like the world's largest club LOL.

All right, well now I am going to bed, (LOL like I need to say that in a comment?) It is almost one AM 0.0

Did you get the link to the other story I posted in ... some other comment thread?

Anyway, good night, and talk to you soon! :)
