Haunting Obsession
Glancing back down at the ragged creature in his fingers, he let out a tired sigh. Twisting it to the side, he glanced down into the pupil less, black, soulless eyes of the very old teddy bear. Even now he could hear her happy laughter, see her bright smile, and taste the gentle skin of her cheek. Though all that’s left of her is the ghost of her memories, and this teddy bear.
Chrono did not keep many personal items, he was a devil, what would he need of them? However, this stuffed animal was a gift, and a promise. One he had long since kept and said good bye to. Holding the stuffed animal closer to his chest, he breathed in her scent. His eyes closed, lost in all that the was of her and her memories. He had nothing else of hers, except this, and it left tears hiding in his eyes. Gently he left a kiss on its tattered brow, the once honey brown of its fur dried a dusty grey by time.
Then ever so gently, he placed it back upon the mantled shelf where he kept it and sunk into a waiting chair. There he settled locking eyes with the accusatory stare of emptiness that was the bear’s eyes. Unbidden the word came to his lips naming his obsession long since gone. "Rosette." He whispered. It was too late, they had run out of time, and she had died long before those forbidden words could be spoken. Now he was left with a bitter reminder of what little time they had, and all they could have shared.
