The Claritin D quit working in less than the promised 12 hours of relief. And this is the part where the soothing hot tea's caffeine begins to maybe ware off, maybe... I can't get my temperature regulated, even though I don't think I have a fever. But I know I will get sicker if I go into work tomorrow- 12 hours running on my feet on two lousy hours of sleep, 16 discharges pushed on a ten minute walk outside in the cold. And really, who wants a sneezing, snotty, clearly sick nurse taking care of you?? Quite frankly nurses are very rude to co-workers who come into the already threatening hospital environment, spreading extra unnecessary germs. My two big tests are two study-days away... this isn't going to work out well. And so I make the defeated call at 04:08. They put my name on the cancelled list and allow our flexi girl to have my hours. They haven't called her yet to cancel her- because I'm lucky. I am told it isn't guaranteed that mine will count as a 'cancelled' as flexis are supposed to be cancelled first, I may have to take the day as a 'call in'. Yeah, yeah, whatever, I can barely hear you through my swollen ear passages and my throat is too sore to afford niceties. She tells me before hanging up, "I was out for two days last week, you'll get worse before you get better."
That is not my plan. Sleep for the next 12-20 hours, and wake up healthy, is my plan.
