III

Alex is sort of high and exhausted as he leans into the hot spray of the shower. They won, which pleases him immensely. It was a hard-fought victory too and that’s what makes it even better. Those are the best since they give him a chance to analyze what worked and what didn’t and how he can rectify the situation. He doesn’t do that right now. He just wants to get clean and away from his team-mates, who are busy chattering and congratulating themselves as they get ready to start their nights.

“Alex, you planning to drown?” Nicklas asks him, snapping him out of his haze. Alex looks over his shoulder at his team-mate and grins.

“Just thinking, lost track of time,” he replies as he picks up the bar of soap and starts scrubbing his body with it.

“Yeah...” Nicklas trails off as he towels his wet hair dry. “You want to go out tonight? With us?” Nicklas asks, his English carefully enunciated and precise as he asks the questions.

Normally, he would jump at the chance, but tonight...he doesn’t know what Sidney will want and he doesn’t want to guess until he knows the answer.

“I may have plans tonight.” Alex tells Nicklas as he rinses off his body and starts shampooing his hair. “I will call you if plans change.”

Nicklas accepts this and walks off to his stall, leaving Alex feeling both elation and dread at the same time. “Maybe last night was the start of more,” he muses to himself as he finishes cleaning up. “Or maybe it could be nothing other than a complicated game that I don’t know the rules to.” He pushes that thought away, but the dread it brings lingers as he gets ready for his night.

Once it’s all done, he digs out his cell and scrolls through the menu, towards the messages anxiously. So worried is he that he doesn’t notice he’s the last one left in the dressing room. He only becomes aware of this when he hears footsteps that stop right in front of him. He looks up and is surprised to find Sidney, smirking at him as Alex gaped at him in shock.

“What are you doing here?” Alex asks after several moments of surprised silence between them.

“I wanted everything to be clear between us. Not mixed up and this morning didn’t give us time for plans or explanations, so I figured that I should be here and make it clear.” Sidney explains, coolly and logically, to which Alex nods.

“So what are these things?” Alex asks as he scrolls back to the default screen and shoves his phone in his pocket, gathering his bag and his jacket as he waits for Sidney to speak.

Sidney grins as they start walking towards the exit. “Dinner first, maybe a few drinks, then the things will come. Sound good to you?”

Alex feels the blush creep over his nose and cheekbones as they walk, him simply following Sidney as he walks towards a new, but not flashy car.

“Yes. It sounds perfect,” he whispers as they get in.

Once they get in, behind the safety of the tinted glass does Sidney lean over and give him a quick, but warm kiss on the lips.

“Good. I was hoping for that.” Sidney replies as he starts the car and they speed away in the night.

End.
