Epitaph
Heap not on this mound
Roses that she loved so well:
Why bewilder her with roses,
That she cannot see or smell?
She is happy where she lies
With the dust upon her eyes.
Roses and funeral lilies perceived, faintly, through an indistinct, ghostly mist.
Roses, lilies. A cemetery. Mist - white, ethereal, otherwordly mist. An old-looking tombstone in a cemetery, with carved letters. No picture on the stone. I can't quite visualize the tomb itself. I see a solitary man crying the loss of his beloved, over red roses and white lilies that he previously laid by the stone.
It reminds me a lot of Phantom Of The Opera... I see Christine's resting place. Cemeteries usually bring me bad conotations, but this one is actually romantic, in a sad way.
I don't know what lillies smell like. I smell roses, and sense the mist. Normally I hate rose notes, but here they are soft, melow, not pungent.
Normally I wouldn't wear something like this, but the description is so gorgeous, the scent so pretty and evocative, that even if I don't wear it, I'll have to keep the imp.
So glad I tried it, as the notes didn't sound appealing at all.
Arcana - Sweet Box
A delectable, sensual, (almost!) edible kiss of sweetness. French cocoa absolute, white sugar crystals, wolfberry honey, butter CO2 extract, oatstraw, copaiba, milk thistle, a hint of patchouli, and the smallest wisp of woodsmoke.
Buttery chocolate. Disgusting, nauseating. Way too sweet and foody. I love Jo Malone's chocolate note, but this thing here belongs in cake batter - and I do not mean that in a good way. Eeeeew.
Veredict: swap box.
Possets - Scent of Angels
The lingering odor of sanctity, The Scent of Angels is truly a magnificent and heartbreakingly beautiful perfume. This is what you would imagine you could smell after angels had disappeared. Is it vanilla, is it floral, is it musk? Is it all of those things or is the combination more than the sum of its parts? In any case you will say it is stunning and leave it at that. Imagine one small down feather floating downward after an angel has flitted through your life.
My first impression, after wearing this for the past couple of hours, is that this scent cannot possibly offend anyone. Soft, but with presence. Sweet, without being cloying. I cannot tell what's in here (I'd guess vanilla and a light musk, but don't take my word for it), but I totally buy that this is what angels smell like. Heavenly, good, positive, smiling, soft.
This reminds me of BPAL's Seraphim - but given that I only tested Seraphim once, I don't know how true to reality my memory of it is.
I probably won't need a full bottle, but will definitely keep the imp - and who knows? I won't be too surprised if I find myself wearing this too often. For sure, this is one of the most wearable perfume oils I've found so far.
Color: light cream
Images evoked: An angel - a typical angel, dressed in white, or perhaps very light cream, with wings and all, male, tall, longish medium-blond hair, peaceful, a soft smile on his lips... standing in front of me, quietly.
(Update, 2 days later: I already bought a full bottle of this. :-P)
