Michael, The Milky Way, and Zero

I need to pause from the Battle sometimes. There's a scene in 'Michael' where Travolta, the warrior Angel, yells "BATTLE!" and runs into a field to fight with a long horned bull. He's laughing and happy after he smashes into the bull and both are lying in the long grass. I know that feeling. I think every warrior has to love the fight, mostly. But ( Read more... )

Doesn't seem entirely irrational to me, given that for most animals, it's easier for predators to spot them in wide open spaces, so it's probably instinctive, and I know the feeling. Also media conditions us to think that the "bad guys" or "bad animals" or other "bad things" could be hiding behind everything you can't see, in every shadow, in the coin return of every phone booth.

I miss the stars. I haven't seen them since I was last in Nebraska, and the first time I was there I was craning my neck to look up at them out the window the entire drive home from the airport, having not seen any in years. Strange how you forget something that's everywhere exists sometimes, just because you can't see it.

I've never seen the northern lights.

Not in Toronto, they don't. At least the air/light pollution's not so bad I can't even see the moon, but only on very rare occasions can you see more than one or two very bright stars, if even that. The sky at night is more typically an orangeish glow, particularly in the winter when the streetlights reflect off the snow. I rarely get the chance to drive far enough out of the city to be able to see them anymore.
