I wore this for teaching my Friday sections and hosting the first Medieval Movie Night of the year:
Gray Pinstripe pants: Express
Peach Twist Top: Kohls
Tan pierced belt: Target
Orange Espadrille Wedges: Indigo by Clarks
Straw Earrings: Marshall Islands, from Ashley
Coral Earrings: New Mexico, from Mom
The seasons are weird in St. Louis, it'll be 90 for months, until one day, it's 60, and fall came from out of nowhere. I always wish there were like a month in between where every day was in the 70s or 80s, and sunny and beautiful. Anyway, I'm not quite ready for the shock of Fall, so I've been getting some last fun out of my summery stuff. Like yesterday, I pulled out my new gray pants I'd bought for fall, but kept the outfit summery with my orange shoes and peach top. And I was debating whether this tan belt works here, but I think it goes with the pale tan in the espadrille wedge of the shoes and in the straw earrings.
I got a lot of compliments on these pants, which are super light and comfy btw, and a few people asked me why I looked so dressed up. I don't know what about this really screams fancy anymore so than what I wear any other day, but I decided to take those questions as compliments too. Perhaps I am a bit overdressed for grad school on a daily basis, but I very much like looking classier than my students. And my lesson went well! And I'm really looking forward to next week - Lysistrata! That'll get the students talking.
Last night was also the first Medieval Movie Night of the year. It was something a few of us had talked about doing last year, and we did it a few times, and I was always involved, and somehow I ended up being designated the person in charge of it. But that's fine, being in charge of organizing our movie nights reminds me a bit of being in Dark Purple in college. I do like events, and these are NOT hard to organize at all. We watched The Secret of Kells, and had Tomas O'Sullivan from the theology faculty give us a 15 min ppt on the history of the book of Kells, and the medieval background history for things the movie to things and characters like Aisling, Pangur Ban, the Chi Ro page, Crom Cruach, and the stone idols. It was nice academic context for a wonderfully delightful film. All in all we had 15 or 16 people attend from three different departments, so our little room was full, there was enough pizza for all, and the night was a success. My advisor (who essentially put me in charge) was glad it went so well. What movie shall be next I wonder?!
Today we're heading into IL to hang out with the Constantines. We're gonna go apple picking and then hang out and grill. I LOVE APPLE PICKING because it brings me back to my childhood at Mosely Hills and Bell's Apple Orchard immediately. Maybe this and making apple crisp soon will make me more excited about the dawn of fall. It'll be a good time, and I can't wait for me, Ben, and Mazero to relate the Saturnine Heresy we read about in our Latin translation work on Thursday to Constantine. He's gonna love the seven angels bit - so crazy!
