Casey and I had a talk today about summer plans while walking the dog. I've been trying to decide if I want to get a job this summer or just make working on my academics my job. Here are my thoughts.
1) I could probably work at the VFL again this summer if I asked Susan for some hours - with Amy gone even if they keep Phil on for the manuscripta database they could still probably use some extra help. It's always good experience. Problem is that even part time last summer I always left with my brain feeling so fried, and I don't know how much other academic stuff I could get done.
2) Speaking of, I have big goals for summer productivity. Here's what I'd like to be working on.
a) Latin translation of Part I of the Pugio
b) Research Bibliography for Marti
c) Arabic practice (and a class?)
d) Summer French for Reading class in June and July
e) Reading for PhD exams
3) I also might be able to get a job at the Circulation desk at the Library, which would not be mentally strenuous at all, but the hours would be odd and I'd only get a few a week.
Considering that Casey and I both got huge pay increases this year and don't need me to be bringing in a few extra bucks in the summer, for minimum wage part time, I might just forgo the summer job and focus on my own stuff. I was worried that that would make Casey think I'm lazy or am not contributing, but he's actually the one that suggested it! We'll see.
PS. What should I get Casey for his birthday?
