I try to look nice on days I teach, and now that Cara no longer updates her little fashion blog as frequently, I've been checking
academichic and
What would a nerd wear every once in awhile for a phd fashion fix, and it's making me realize that I really don't have to do any more shopping to be stylish, I just gotta get better at putting things together. So I'm having a lot of fun learning. I have been a touch envious about how put together these gals can seem, but I realized that if I only posted my best few outfits each week, I could come across pretty as stylish myself. So here I go, playing fashion-blogger, chronicling the most recent two days of no-pants week.
Today - Thursday, March 24th.
A chilly day of morning flurries and cold breezes complicated my no-pants week spring celebration plan. But in the back of my closet I remembered there was a sweater dress I've never been quite sure how to wear. I've actually only worn it once. So I gave myself that challenge, and added a belt for shape and some tights to insulate my legs. (I'm always surprised at how warm tights can be.) Here's how I chose to style said sweater dress today.
I learned that it's hard to take full length photos of yourself, and on this first attempt, I cut off my head and feet. ... Take two!
Now time for my "works cited"
Sweater Dress: Gift from my Grammie last Christmas
Tights: Target
Brown leather flats: Journeys
Belt: American Eagle
Turquoise Necklace: Stolen from Mom I think?
African Bracelet: Gift from my friend Heather
Headband: Claire's
And now for some details on the accessories. I am not usually good at accessorizing, but I think I did okay today:
The necklace adds a much needed bit of color to an outfit full of neutrals.
I really like how the white and brown in the bracelet tie the colors of the dress and tights together.
I'm also including the outfit I wore Wednesday of no-pants week, when it was 70 and sunny. Perhaps a little too dressy, but I love my new skirt so I wanted to wear it anyway.
Wednesday, March 23rd.

Striped Top: H&M
Pencil Skirt: Express
Little Black Heels: Payless
Headband: Gift from Sister
Necklace: American Eagle
I was really pleased with this outfit, and despite being asked why I was so dressed up, I liked feeling professional in the classroom and yet very comfortable at the same time. I also like that the navy stripes of the shirt are dark enough that they might be black. In the future I think I'll only take photos when there's natural sun in my apartment though!
I really like this necklace, even though I forgot I even had it for awhile. It makes a bit of a jingle when I walk:
Hmm... must learn to change the size of photos... :-)
Anyway it's been fun to shake things up from jeans, look a bit more put together, and try things I don't normally do, like pencil skirts and wearing belts not on pants. My lesson went well this week, perhaps because I planned a kick-ass class, but perhaps also because I felt a little bit more like a teacher when dressed for the part. One more day of no-pants week to go!
