Tonight was one of the most fun nights in St. Louis yet, and I laughed for HOURS. Tonight Casey and I went to Mark's house in Chesterfield for a holiday party / Romeo & Juliet cast party and it was like the best cast party I've ever been to. Casey and I had a hell of a time getting there with 64/40 being closed, but it was totally totally worth it. Mark is like, one of the most wonderful people in the world, so friendly, outgoing, inclusive, and genuine. Adore. I had such a good time sitting around the table chatting with all the Romeo and Juliet people tonight. Honestly, I felt totally myself around all of them immediately, like these were just people I could really be comfortable with. They were tons of fun - my kind of people! I know I was there with Casey, and it was his cast party, but oh man, that night was just what I needed too. I'd been kind of down about how I feel I may not make close friends with people here, but I felt like friends with all of them by the end of the night. Theatre people are just good fun folk. I really like the guy Casey did his opening scene with, Ben, he's just nice. We exchanged a couple humorous looks whenever we were the two not in the conversation. And Aaron, who played Benvolio (and looks JUST like Nate Olafsen) was nice and funny telling all these crazy dangerous stories about City Museum. Even the older actors were cool - the two dads in R&J may not have been great actors, but it was cool talking to them about medieval history movies. And the two girls were great - I could see being friends with either of them. I was sad Valerie left early cause I enjoy her so much! And she went to University of Iowa, so it's nice to relate. And Casey was really outgoing and having a great time too. You can tell they all really like and respect him, and god he got the biggest laughs of the night with that Jenga comment. Holy crap that was funny. But the conversation was all over the place, from hairless chimpanzees to Chippendale's to people losing their thumbs at the museum, man. Also intellectual conversations too. What a fun night. I don't think I've laughed that hard for that long yet while living here. It's been a stressful end of the semester and that night of fun being myself and making friends was just what I needed. It reminded me so much of the Sodexho table, which is what I loved most about it. Except this time the food was good. (mmm lasagna and broccoli slaw and red pepper hummus with veggies!) It was people having a blast just eating and talking and laughing for hours, with interesting (and often inappropriate! yay!) conversations. FUN. I wish Mark wasn't moving away!
I will make good friends here eventually and there are people I can have fun with and relate to in St. Louis. I see that now. :-) <3
