So Cornellians,
Does everyone remember how there was a dip in the pedmall between bowman and the commons? It wasn't a sinkhole, they actually discovered a huge brick cistern underneath the ped mall, built between the 1830's and 1840's (predating Bowman Carter and Old Sem and the college itself) the oldest structure on the campus, that was just now beginning to cave in. They filled it in with cement to keep the ped mall stable. Apparently no one knew it was there, and it isn't on any of the college plans or blueprints, so it is possible no one in the history of the college has ever known it was there!
And the craziest thing? Just last week when pulling up a diseased tree between old sem, norton, and college hall, they found ANOTHER ONE! So apparently the college has an underground brick water system beneath it that no one knew was there. SO COOL! I just want to know why Cornell hasn't PUBLISHED this for me to read about! What a neat addition to Cornell history. I wish Josh had known more when he told me about it.
