I'm on the internet again! Glad IT sorted out that annoying Vista problem quickly. You know, as much as I really love my new computer, the compiling Vista issues get annoying. I ditched my old computer to avoid malfunctions and annoyances, and my new one has them in abundance because of Vista. Oh well, it's still new, and they're all easily fixable so far.
Internet though would have been helpful this morning to find out that it was going to be cold and rainy and freezing all day. My arms turned a lovely shade of purple when Dan and I walked back from lunch.
Lunch conversations were especially hilarious today, because Dan severely overestimates his fighting ability, and thought that he could take Casey or Bryce in a fight, and that it'd be pretty evenly matched, or he'd come out stronger. Ridiculous Dan, ridiculous. I didn't want to like, insult his masculinity, but what is he thinking?! C'mon. Dan's entirely unskilled size vs. Casey's years of technical training (striking with Kempo and grappling with judo and brazilian jujitsu) plus nearly equal size? It's just about simple math, and his skills don't add up there at all. I offered that a fight between Casey or Bryce and Dave, a skilled wrestler, ex-military man, and generally dirty fighter, would be MUCH more interesting and evenly matched, but a fight between Dan and Casey (or Dan and Bryce) would really just not be a competition.
...I've been watching too much UFC...
(and I'm still sad Mirko lost again).
So class. I was totally prepared for the quiz today, which made me really happy, especially because I didn't get full points on the last two (and that was really pissing me off because I had done all the reading and taken all the notes and it didn't reflect that which is the only purpose of the quizzes). But I finally got a glimpse of what people are saying when they call Rhawn picky. My goodness. I mean, I still did really well on the paper, but some of the "corrections" are just a little over the top. When my English professors (like the infamously hard Shannon Reed - who teaches "Grammar and Politics of English") don't even make corrections like the little things he picked out of my paper, you know it's a little anal retentive. (and by a little, I mean a LOT.)
Oh, and damn, I forgot to pick up that paper he printed out today. I was hoping it might give me some insight into how geologists write about history. Anyway, other than those annoyances the class is really interesting. So much so that I really wish I knew even more about this, so that I could include climate into historiography a lot more.
Wish Casey were still here as I miss him already. I'm really glad he stayed last night. It was a fabulous weekend. Yesterday was our (Casey, Bryce, Julia, Lindsey, and Me) first DnD session as a group, and my first session EVER. Yes, nerdy as I am, I'd never played. Because I didn't know what to expect and was being pushed into this crazy world of gaming, I was really stressed out about embarrassing myself, and nervous I'd be screwing up and confused and uncreative, and pretty worried that I'd hate it and spoil everyone's fun. Casey got mad at me for being so upset about something as light-hearted and fun (to him) as DnD, but then we played and I had fun and all that ridiculousness went away. We made characters and started a quest or mission or something, and it was a good time. Kind of a slow game with a lot of addition (ugh, numbers really do make everything less enjoyable), but still fun. I had no idea what the crap to do ever, but I ended up as halfling rogue named Tika and I have lots of awesome skills and I rolled a natural 20 and shot an ogre with a bow. (Yes, the name's stolen from the dragonlance chronicles; I just really like Tika's spunk and confidence!)
Uncle Tony would be so proud of both the DnD and the Dragonlance chronicles reference. Gotta remember to tell him there's a movie coming out.
As I said before though, the weekend was great. Met up with Heather and Maggie on Saturday at the mall with Casey, (we spent WAY too long there) and got a cute little classy homecoming dress and a fabulous new strapless bra. Casey was a champ putting up with us girls shopping. That evening I played IM Dodgeball with our team, the Blue Barracudas, (Me, Julia, Kerri, Brian Wall, Mark, BC, and Dan) which rocked. We got 2nd place in the Co-ed division! So fun, even if everyone's slightly sore in unexpected places. Friday was the outdoor movie where everyone got bug bites despite the bugspray, and I laughed my butt off at Blades of Glory near PA group, Casey, Bryce, Julia, and Dan. YAY weekend. Also, had a great midnight walk last night with Casey - I love him and our walk talks.
Ok, enough procrastination - homework GO!
PS - is it Tuesday evening yet? No? Damn! Can't wait to partay with my friends for Heather's 21st birthday!
