Block Break Run-Down Part 1: SkIan!

Feb 04, 2007 22:43

OMG, block break is SOOOO satisfying. Let me explain why.

~ SkIan Begins!!! Julia and I are so badass it's ridiculous. We got up very early to eat Thursday block break breakfast, a phenomenon I have never experienced. We ate with Mehrdad and Lucio, our fellow winter sport enthusiasts who unfortunately were going to Chestnut instead of Sundown. We were on the road then, and after Rentals and all that nonsense, were skiing by like 10:20. IT WAS SO COLD! There is no way for me to adequately describe the biting cold. It was probably like 10 degrees, but below zero with windchill. Luckily with our amazing layers (we had a few good laughs about our hat/hood situations hahaha) we were so invincible to the cold, except for that little bit of face in the cheek/nose region that is inevitably exposed. I missed my ski goggles sorely, because the cold going down like attacked my face and was very painful, and my eyes teared as a result, which only made things wet and cold - even worse. But the skiing was good. I eventually beat 25 seconds on the time course, and found the blue bullet run to be very fun. Julia and I went in for lunch when the cold gripping my toes became too painful to endure. I got those little hand warmer thingys that didn't work as well as i would have liked them to, but kept my toes alive. My feet have never been that cold before. Also got some super thick hot cocoa. After lunch, we braved the chill again and were surprisingly resistant to its evils! We didn't get as cold as were were before lunch again for the rest of the day. We didn't ski for as long as we could have, but I think we got a satisfying amount of skiing in and left around 3pm for Ian's.

~ SkIan continues! On the way to Ian's Julia put on and taught me about Ragtime, which lasted the entire car trip, and ended exactly when we pulled into the parking spot. We were very excited and burst into his apartment (which is really nice and new, surprisingly!) and basically covered it with ski clothes. We probably were a little gross ski-smelling, but Ian was happy to see us. We laid around on his bed

(Can you believe Ian has a BED?! No way. I thought he'd sleep on a futon mattress on the floor for the rest of his life) and chatted until we decided to commence our "Lame" night by going to the grocery store (pick n' save!) in search of chocolate, pepperoni, and wine. We ended up getting "Smoking Loon" wine, with a picture of noneother than a loon (like the bird not the crazy) smoking - hilarious. As for the chocolate, we decided to make brownie batter, and eat it raw. We cooked probably a third of it in a small pyrex pan, but by the time the brownie came out of the oven, as delicious as it was, we were too full of DELICIENT batter and pecan coconut frosting to consume it. I ate about half of mine though, just to be a glutton. Here Ian and I take a photo of our reflection in his shiny shiny bowl before we fill it with batter:

We watched the Shawshank Redemption, which I had never seen. It's Casey's Mom's favorite movie, and I can certainly see why! It was SO good and uplifting. I never want to go to prison. I loved that Ian stopped it at exactly 1 hour in so we could eat foods. After the amazing amount of calories (we also had a lot of pizza beforehand) I felt that kind of good full you can only get from eating too much delicious junk food. It's almost like a stomachache, but it's too good to be that. MMM. Julia promptly fell asleep in Ian's bed when we were chatting after the movie, so Ian and I decided to continue being hyper while watching Firefly - Shindig. A classic. After that I called Casey and promptly fell asleep, happy and full and tired from skiing.

In the morning I thought I was going to die. My throat was closed a little from the down pillows and comforter (apparently I'm allergic to down too...) and my mouth itched like crazy. I took a benadryl and fell back asleep in Ian's bag chair thing. In the morning he scooted chex mix at my face. Hah yum. I was thoroughly impressed with his cooking skills when we had a chicken garlicky pasta thing for brunch, and we ate to the glorious sounds of Les Miserables in concert, singing along to Jean Valjean happily. Unfortunately Ian had to go to work unexpectedly, so we packed up and headed out sooner than expected. After a quiet car trip home we got back, worked out, showered, and were on the road once again to go have dinner with our boyfriends at HuHot!

But Block Break Run-Down Part Deux: "Iowa City" will have to come later, because as they say, I am le tired.
