Jack sighed heavily as he crashed out on the sofa, on to his best friend’s lap, bringing his Tom Delonge guitar down with him and almost successfully blinding Alex with a tuning peg. Surprisingly enough Alex didn’t swear at the other boy or shove him to concrete floor of his basement; he just ducked his head out the way of the guitar-weapon and reached around to poke Jack in the side.

“Hmm?” Jack mumbled shifting his weight around carelessly on his human cushion to get comfortable.

“You almost blinded me, dickface” Alex complained quietly, resting both his hands on Jack’s front, fingertips pressing absentmindedly into the younger’s worn shirt. Jack suppressed a contented sigh and leant his head back on the sofa.  The back of his skull pressed gently into Alex’s shoulder bone in his slouched position, his long legs either side of the elder’s, guitar laid across his hips, the strap still draped over his shoulder.

“M’sorry” Jack apologised lazily, his hands silently moved over his guitar playing mutely.

“Practice is over, you’re obsessed Barakat” Alex teased, nuzzling his nose into Jack’s black and blonde hair. Jack snorted lightly in some kind of defiance but sat up to slide his guitar from his neck and lay back on the sofa with his head on the arm of the chair, shoulder blades digging into Alex’s thighs.

The teenage band’s drummer and bassist had left as the sun went down, leaving the other half of the band to pack away the equipment, but they didn’t. They never did. The basement was bare, save a large (and ugly) rug and a pair of curtains on the only window. Jack turned his body into Alex’s, cuddling into his warmth. Alex leant his arm on the sofa, fingers softly scratching into his friend’s scalp as Jack closed his eyes happily, leaning back into Alex’s touch.

That’s how things always were between them, closer than close and more importantly never to close for comfort. Too lazy to turn a light on or move to Alex’s bedroom both boys fell asleep on the sofa, body pressed together and limps knotted up.

Jack stirred around 2AM, the early winter air rising goose bumps over his skin.

“Alex” Jack blinked slowly and nudged his friend’s sleeping form, “Alex, wake up”

The elder simply nuzzled closer to the back of the sofa, letting out a deep sigh from his deep sleep. Jack shook his head and smiled a bit because Alex really was adorable even if it wasn’t cool for another sixteen year old boy to say so.

Jack stood up, careful not to wake his friend. As quietly as he could he climbed the stairs to the first floor then the second, opened Alex’s bedroom door and made his way into his bed. The warmth swallowed him whole and he fell asleep in minutes.

It wasn’t until almost 5AM that Alex sensed the empty space next to him, his arms reached out hit nothing but air in his attempt to gain some heat from Jack’s slim frame. Sitting up, head thick with sleep Alex scrunched his eyebrows together and looked around the dim room for any sign of his friend waiting to pounce him.

“Jack?” He asked the stagnant air in a whisper, but he received no reply. His right hand made the familiar path from his side to his hair as he wound it through his fingers. Yawning widely he shuffled his way to his room, looking around for Jack in each room he passed, leaving his parents’ unchecked because, really?

Alex finally untangled his fingers from his unruly bed hair and pushed open his bedroom door to revel Jack sound asleep wrapped up in his sheets. And it was most likely uncool for Alex to think so, but he did in fact think Jack looked adorable with his hair splayed all over the pillow and his mouth hanging slightly open.

Smiling lopsidedly Alex snatched back his comforter and moved into his bed, kicking Jack slightly in the leg because well, he could and Jack deserved it for leaving him downstairs.

“Mmh, ‘Lex...” Jack groaned, his face pressed into the pillow. Alex grinned and laid down, his spine clicking satisfyingly. “Why’d you kick me? Douchebag...”

“You left me downstairs in the cold, you deserved it” Alex stated simply, a small smirk on his face. Jack finally opened his tired eyes and his gaze got caught up in his friend’s smirk, his lips pulled up to the side, just the simplest sign of happiness and Jack smiled too.

It was slow, and careful, as Jack leaned forward and stole a last glance to Alex’s bright eyes before pressed his lips to the elder’s.  Alex felt the heat of a blush taint his cheeks before he drew back from the tender kiss, only to lick his lips and kiss back harder. Jack felt his breath hitch and his pulse quicken in the moment, his hand curling around Alex’s waist as an anchor, keeping him grounded while his head reached the clouds.

Alex drew back again, giving Jack a knowing grin before resting his head into the crook of his neck.  Jack kept his arm around the brunet’s waist, maybe squeezing him a little closer just because he could.

“Sorry for leaving you downstairs”

“Fuck you”

“Love you babydoll”

“Love you too fuckface”
