Here's the meal I put together for my dinner tonight.
3/4 cup of Mahatma rice: 27 cents
Trader Joe's grilled balsamic vinegar and rosemary chicken: $5.50
Alexia all-natural mushroom bites: $4.50
Hansen's all-natural cane sugar soda (cherry vanilla flavor): $4 per six pack
Tương Ớt Sriracha sauce: $2.50 for a 17 oz. bottle at Super Wal-Mart
Those are retail prices, not necessarily what I paid. *demonic laughter*
After having it recommended by
vi_doll and
ladyvanilla, I finally tried the Sriracha sauce. I liked it, I thought it had a nice, slightly garlicky taste. As far as hotness goes I'd rate it somewhere between mild and moderate. I don't know if I'm going to be eating a ton if it, because it does have a lot of sodium (even for a hot sauce) and preservatives in it, but I like it enough to keep using it every now and then.
The reason I wrote that I put together this meal, instead of cooked it, is that the Trader Joe's chicken came pre-cooked and all I had to do was put it in the microwave. The mushroom bites came frozen and pre-breaded so all I had to do was put them in the oven. I did cook the rice though.
The Trader Joe's chicken was delicious, but I don't think Trader Joe's is quite as eco-friendly and healthy as they make themselves out to be. Nowhere on the chicken package did it say "no antibiotics or growth promotants used" nor did it say "free-range". If a company is selling chicken that these things can apply to they always put it on the packaging. Granted, where Trader Joe's is getting their chicken is probably better than where Perdue or Tyson or one of the really big and cheap companies is getting theirs, but we still probably wouldn't want to eat it if we actually knew.
And
poptarts812 if you're reading this, I haven't forgotten your won-ton soup recipe. I'm probably going to make it sometime next week.
I'm also probably going to go to the emergency room sometime tomorrow or Sunday, because I'm still feeling those slight but persistent headaches that seem like they're coming from right underneath my skin and honestly it's freaking me out.
