01 Walking

The problem was simple: they always ran before they walked and they never thought to slow down.

02 Waltz

Lee jumped off the wing of the Viper and held his hand out for Kara to take, “I know traditionally I would have to wait until tomorrow night to ask you this, but can I dance with the bride?”

03 Wishes

Kara had always had a box of secret wishes she never let anyone see, especially Lee, because if Lee saw it, then he would know what she had meant all those years she told him to get the frak away from her.

04 Wonder

Lee stared in wonder as his daughter took her first few steps right into her mother’s arms.

05 Worry

The worry came naturally to Lee now that Kara was settled down on the planet’s surface.

06 Whimsy

Kara bought the little black dress on a whim from Racetrack when the pilot was cleaning out her locker; she had this vision of Lee’s reaction in her head and the idea of that actually happening made the loss of her last bottle of ambrosia worthwhile.

07 Waste/Wasteland

New Caprica was a wasteland when Lee was finally given permission to take a look at the fallout, and the only thing that kept him from completely losing it was Cally’s casual comment that Kara was waiting for him down on the surface.

08 Whiskey and rum

Kara could taste the whiskey on Lee’s mouth as they celebrated the discovery of the thirteenth colony, and when his lips moved to tickle her neck, she wonder if he could taste the rum that had been sprayed on her in the chaos of their success.

09 War

It suddenly occurred to him as her nails dug into the skin of his back: war is Kara’s lifeline.

10 Weddings

Kara watched Lee dancing with Dee and remembered why she had always hated weddings.

11 Birthday

When his girlfriend broke up with him on his eighteenth birthday, Lee closed his eyes and wished for a woman he knew could never exist and therefore would never break his heart: one who was tough as nails on the outside but completely vulnerable on the inside, a beautiful woman who could drink him under the table but still had the foresight to make sure they passed out together, someone who could understand why he hated his father but wouldn’t stop pointing out how stupid that hatred was, one who would make his eyes light up when he saw her, a woman who would make his heart skip a beat just by smiling… that was a woman he could love without hesitation.

12 Blessing

William Adama watched his son talking softly to the bride and knew that was a union to which he could give his blessing with ease if only it weren’t too late.

13 Bias

Lee knew he was biased when he assigned the mission to Kara, but honestly he just wanted to see her in heels one more time before he died so he could know that flare of desire wasn‘t just in his dreams.

14 Burning

Lee felt the burning sting her hand left behind and knew he had finally pushed her too far.

15 Breathing

Lee could hear Kara’s breathing speed up behind the closed curtain of her bunk, and he did his best not to imagine why that might be.

16 Breaking

The chaos on Cloud Nine faded out as he fell to the floor, bleeding from his shoulder, and as his eyes met hers, the only thing Lee could hear was the sound of everything they were breaking in two.

17 Belief

Lee’s hands were stained with blood as Kara stumbled with him down the dirt roads of New Caprica City, and he whispered, “I have to believe there’s something better out there for us than this life.”

18 Balloon

Kara wasn’t sure how he managed it, but on the morning of her birthday, there was one red balloon sitting on her bunk when she came back from the head.

19 Balcony

Kara stepped out onto the balcony of her classroom at the Academy and shut her eyes as dangerous thoughts started creeping into her head; Zak should never have told her Lee was back in town.

20 Bane

Lee had never known he could love a woman so much and still think of her as the bane of his existence.

21 Quiet

Sometimes, when Kara got too quiet, Lee wished things could just be simple; he wished he could just reach across the table and take her hand in his.

22 Quirks

It was the little quirks in their relationship that made people laugh: the way Lee could always tell when she was bluffing at triad, the fact that she knew the one noise that would drive him insane, the reason why when they thought no one was watching they dropped the façade of sarcasm and simply enjoyed each other’s company.

23 Question

The question fell off his lips before he could stop himself, “Do you really call this nothing, Kara?”

24 Quarrel

The tears slid down Kara’s face as she sat alone in the hangar bay on Pegasus, wondering why she was spending her first anniversary crying over some stupid quarrel with Lee.

25 Quitting

Kara woke up with a pounding headache, but her stomach didn’t get nauseous until she remembered what she had said about Dee the night before, “I really need to quit with the fraking ambrosia before I make him hate me for good.”

26 Jump

The jump from being the woman about to marry his younger brother to being the best friend he never knew he wanted was far too easy for her to make.

27 Jester

“Captain Thrace, you better get fraking back here and explain why Jester is currently in his skivvies washing your Viper with a toothbrush,” Lee yelled down the corridor.

28 Jousting

Sometimes, the little ways they sniped at each other reminded Kara of the stories she had heard in primary school about the ancient form of jousting; the back and forth motion made her want to scream in frustration.

29 Jewel

Most people didn’t understand who Kara was even after years of knowing her, but Lee had known the second he met her that she would always be a rough kind of jewel in his eyes, the kind that once you‘ve found you can‘t live without.

30 Just

Lee pushed himself inside Kara just as her eyes opened to meet his.

31 Smirk

Lee smirked at Kara, “There’s only one condition and that is you have to wait sixty seconds before firing the gun; if you can do that, you win.”

32 Sorrow

Kara didn’t know the true measure of sorrow until she stole Lee’s last stogie and he stopped talking to her in anything other than a professional capacity.

33 Stupidity

Kara was left leaning against the counter in the head with bruised lips and a shivering body, wondering when her stupidity had gotten in the way of keeping Lee at arm’s length.

34 Serenade

When Lee showed up to watch the triad game, Kara tipped her glass and serenaded him with a poem she composed about the Arrow of Apollo.

35 Sarcasm

“A day without your sarcasm is a day not yet lived,” Lee teased.

36 Sordid

Their affair had always had a hint of sordidness to it, but it was only when Lee whispered how much he loved her that Kara truly understood the sin they were committing.

37 Soliloquy

Lee stood outside the doors to the pilots’ briefing room and listened to Starbuck’s soliloquy as she practiced for the first day of the next class of nuggets.

38 Sojourn

Kara and Lee promised to never tell anyone about the few days she spent living in Lee’s apartment on Picon after the funeral.

“The kids at school were sharing this old legend they heard about two stars that spent their whole lives moving within inches of each other, constantly scorching one another over and over again,” Kara’s chuckle traveled to the Admiral’s ears on the other end of the line before she continued, “and for some reason, it reminded me of Lee.”

40 Solitary

Hot Dog was trying to figure out where the frak he was when he saw a solitary figure leaning against the corridor wall, and it wasn’t until he passed by it and heard two distinctive moans, one female, one male, that he realized he had just stumbled upon regulation breaking at its finest.

41 Nowhere

Lee took a deep breath and, even though he knew better, answered her question, “Nowhere, Kara.”

42 Neutral

Kara always liked to stay neutral when it came to the power struggle between pilots and authority, but ever since Lee became CAG, she found herself sticking up for the authority more and more.

43 Nuance

For years, Lee had studied the subtle nuances of Kara’s body from afar; he was happy to finally get a chance to feel them firsthand.

44 Near

William Adama found the bodies of his two children, hands entwined, on the farthest hill of the battlefield, and knew without a doubt that they had crawled great distances to be near each other in the end.

45 Natural

Somehow it felt natural for Kara to want to curl herself up under the blankets on the bed in Lee’s new Commander’s quarters.

46 Horizon

The horizon of New Picon lit up with explosions, and Lee turned to Kara, “I guess the third time isn’t the charm.”

47 Valiant

“I’m surprised they didn’t give you the callsign Valiant,” Kara teased as she watched Lee struggle to keep from dropping the mounds of paperwork the President had him carrying from one conference room to another.

48 Virtuous

The virtuous thing would be keep her eyes averted when she ran into him in the pilots’ shower, but Kara had never been that type of girl.

49 Victory

For some reason, Kara never savored her victories over Lee even after she worked so hard to come out on top.

50 Defeat

Kara looked down at the small diamond on her hand and wondered if she really wanted the Cylons to be defeated; good things had only started happening to her after those attacks pushed Lee back into her life, and she didn‘t want to risk losing that.
