Paula couldn't help but marvel at the rings of energy that created his Rockin' Omega power - it made her strongest Fire spell look like little more than a firecracker.
#02 - Hero:
From the first time she contacted him, Paula knew that he would be the one to save her.
#03 - Memory:
As Ness flipped through the scrapbook the photographer had left, he couldn't help but smile as he came to the picture of he and Paula in front of the cabin he'd rescued her from.
#04 - Box:
Ness looked up at Paula as he pulled the frying pan out of the gift box that had been randomly laying on the ground; "Here, I bet you could put this to good use."
#05 - Run:
"Come on, let's hurry - my house is this way," Ness called, heaving the unconscious Paula onto his back; the monsters that now roamed the streets of Onett were nothing short of omnipotent.
#06 - Hurricane:
Lightning crackled and the wind howled as the two of them latched onto the Kraken's tail, focusing all of their energy into their Rockin' and Fire abilities.
#07 - Cold:
Paula huddled closer to him as the group walked through the snow - of course, in a country like Winters, there was something to be said for "warmth in numbers".
#08 - Red:
As Ness tightly clutched the red ribbon in his hand, he silently vowed to destroy whoever had taken her from them.
#09 - Wings:
He knew he had to be seeing things; as he wearily focused on her praying form, she almost appeared to have wings.
#10 - Drink:
If Ness were capable of any thought - other than the words that the Mr. Saturns' coffee put into his mind - he would've agreed with the voice that described Paula as "steadfast, kind, and even pretty".
#11 - Midnight:
"It's so dreary," she muttered, and Ness had to agree - even though it was the middle of the day, Threed was as black as midnight.
#12 - Temptation:
The instant he kicked the doors open, he saw her; he wanted to run up and take her into his arms, but the sight of Monotoli next to her reminded him that there were other things to be taken care of at the moment.
#13 - View:
As he looked down at the small log cabin from his position on the ledge, he could feel something encouraging him to go towards it... almost as if someone was calling to him from inside.
#14 - Music:
As they clapped along to the sounds of the Runaway Five, Ness resisted the urge to grab her and start dancing.
#15 - Silk:
Ness watched her intently as Paula tied the ribbons up in her hair; for a brief moment, he wanted to tie them for her, just so he could feel her hair between his fingers.
#16 - Cover:
They took refuge behind a tree, just out of the zombies' line of sight; "Okay, here's the plan... first we ask nicely if they'll move out of the way, and if that doesn't work, then we bust out with our PSI..."
#17 - Promise:
"You know... if you two get hitched someday, then I'll fix your broken appliances, free of charge!"
#18 - Dream:
Ness awoke in a cold sweat, unable to get the dream out of his mind - whoever this 'Paula' girl was, she needed his help.
#19 - Candle:
"I wish I'd thought to bring a candle or something," Ness joked as he and Paula entered the cave, though there was some truth to it - it was awfully dark in there.
#20 - Talent:
She had a knack for cheering him up when he needed it; perhaps it was her endless optimism...
#21 - Silence:
Ness was stunned into silence as he looked at the words written on the wall; he was lucky that the Lumine Hall wasn't displaying his more private thoughts...
#22 - Journey:
Ness felt very close with all three of them; however, Paula had accompanied him on his journey almost from the very beginning - he felt a particularly special connection with her.
#23 - Fire:
He could see that her psychic powers had more uses than just destroying their enemies - it was also rather handy for starting campfires.
#24 - Strength:
"Please, give him strength," Paula prayed with all of her might; perhaps someone would hear and give Ness the power to defeat their greatest foe.
#25 - Mask:
Ness thought it best to hide his emotions; if he got too close to her, it could interfere with their mission somehow.

Ness barely managed to dodge the freezing air that had burst from her fingertips; he hadn't heard that crow coming up behind him.
#27 - Fall:
Ness nervously pulled himself along the rope; he almost regretted making Paula go before him so he could catch her if she fell - the current view he was getting was making all of the blood rush to his face.
#28 - Forgotten:
Paula bit her lip and gazed at Ness as they stood in front of the preschool; "There was something I wanted to tell you, but I've forgotten it..."
#29 - Dance:
Venus had blonde hair; for a split second, he thought he saw Paula in her place, dancing on the stage, but that was impossible - she was right next to him.
#30 - Body:
He opened his eyes to a red sky and blue grass, then nearly screamed upon discovering his current state; a quick glance around the area told him that no, Paula was not there to see his naked body, and he let out a relieved sigh.
#31 - Sacred:
Paula supported the injured Ness as they made their way into the Lilliput Steps area; they could feel the powers from the holy place healing their wounds and refreshing their energy.
#32 - Farewells:
They decided to walk back to Twoson from Saturn Valley, to prolong their remaining time together; he'd agreed to escort her home, but neither of them were ready to part ways yet.
#33 - World:
The four of them had traveled to every end of the world that they could possibly reach; there were so many times that Ness just wanted to give up and go home, but then he saw her smile - and then he decided that he wasn't ready for his adventure to end yet.
#34 - Formal:
"You don't have to be so formal around him, you know," Paula said to the newest member of the team as they walked the streets of Summers, "he treats us all as equals..."
#35 - Fever:
Paula worriedly looked down at him as she pressed the wet towel to Ness' forehead - sunstroke was fairly common when walking through the desert.
#36 - Laugh:
Hearing Paula giggle at his failed teleport attempt made him realize just how much he'd missed hearing it while she was gone.
#37 - Lies:
While roaming Twoson, he heard all sorts of rumors that the 'powers' that Paula possessed were just a hoax, but he knew better than to actually believe them - after all, he had some pretty strange powers himself.
#38 - Forever:
She'd sounded so depressed when saying her goodbyes; it was like she'd never expected to see him again when everything was said and done.
#39 - Overwhelmed:
He could feel the power emanating from Paula as she charged her Freeze Omega attack; the energy output would be more than enough to put a regular person into a coma.
#40 - Whisper:
Ness was afraid to speak to her in little more than a whisper, fearing that the Guardian would hear and ambush them.
#41 - Wait:
"I've contacted Jeff," Paula said as she leaned against the cold metal wall of their underground prison, "now we just have to wait for him to get here..."
#42 - Talk:
Ness' mind was whirling as he wandered around Twoson; this girl who kept talking to him in his sleep obviously had more power than he'd first assumed.
#43 - Search:
"I'm not going to rest until I find her," he adamantly told Jeff, even though the lack of sleep was clearly taking its toll on him.
#44 - Hope:
Ness slowly felt himself losing hope as the Nightmare's brutal assault on him continued, but then he snapped himself back into reality: if he gave up now, not only would he be letting the whole world down, but he'd also be letting Paula down - she gave him the most hope of all.
#45 - Eclipse:
"This place is absolutely insane," Jeff said as he glanced up at the neon-outlined 'sun' of Moonside; Ness could only nod in agreement, as his thoughts were mainly focused on getting out of there and finding Paula.
#46 - Gravity:
"Ness, are you alright?" Paula asked, wincing as he fell over - the mushroom atop his head was making him think that the sky was actually the ground.
#47 - Highway:
"It looks like we're going to have to walk through the desert," Paula said, looking at Ness; he groaned, cursing whatever was causing the huge traffic jam in the middle of Dusty Dunes.
#48 - Unknown:
Paula's words continued to echo in his mind as he started walking back to Onett - just what was it that she'd wanted to tell him...?
#49 - Lock:
"It's okay, Ness," Paula said, watching him pull at the door of their locked cell, "I've got everything under control..."

As they trudged through the murky waters of Deep Darkness, it became increasingly difficult to keep their heads above the surface; if his feet could actually touch bottom, Ness would've heaved Paula and Jeff above him so at least they'd be able to breathe.
