So it turns out that Miss Atchoum is dead for real and the crazy neighbour is crazy, but honest.
I verified her story with the city and they did pick up a cat's body at that address on the day she mentioned.
Everytime I come home and she isn't in the window, there is this momentary emptiness in my chest, like space that was there that suddenly goes empty with a thump.
It was the most adorable cat I have ever met, loving, smiling that little cat smile of hers, always chatty - I've never met a cat that talked so much. Often she was the only confident I could let myself have, when there were things I couldn't tell anyone, for fear of making them worry for nothing.
I will always miss her but I try to remind myself that every tear holds a moment of happiness with her, and that I'm not unlucky she is gone, just lucky she ever was in my life.
We gave her a very good life, and she made us very happy.
