So tell me this..
How is it that when a life so pure that lives in a world that man worked very hard to develop and a rock that is considered pure in the mineral world, are viewed as equal priorities, and in most cases a diamond is viewed more significant than an innocent and pure life that is tossed around and destroyed in the process of searching for this small mineral.
I do not know whether these people that put lives at stake are either ignorant or stupid or suffer from conditioning that does not allow them to distinguish right from wrong
. Those of young age are exposed to the violence and hate that are demonstrated by the infantile acts of those called "adults" those of which children are impressed and influenced by. Those children are exposed to gun ammunition and weaponry and learn to kill children of the same age, younger and older adults and now after completing a specific type of training they know nothing of such a word called mercy. I never had any knowledge of this devastating predicament, but after watching the movie dedicated to this entire bloodshed affair I was adversely educated and soon after driven & ambitious to act upon such an unfair situation.
Although many developed countries have all the power to completely extinct the issue considering the problem is taken place in a developing country, they simply add more weapons and firearms to, in their eyes, better the situation. But as common sense would clearly explain the situation, more money, more weapons, more problems. More weapons are being made to expose a more powerful attack, and when more are made, more rebels strive to inherit it which proves my statement, more money = more weapons = more problems. Unless of course, someone decides to smarten up and use the money people generously give up to actually feed and protect the people that are innocently involved. Yes, the problem has been somewhat improved but not completely considering these problems has been around for more than 3 decades. It was 9 years ago in 1998 where the UN finally decides to act upon the situation by putting a halt on the diamond dealing with the UNITA rebels. Then 6 years later in 2004, was stated that, in fact, they were addressing the diamond trade wrongly. More and more resolutions were being attempted and practiced such as the Kimberley Process Certification, which entitles member countries to ship rough diamonds that are certified as conflict-free diamonds. But even still the resolution they were certain would be a success became corrupted and yet again lead them the where they started.
When is seemed as if they tried so many resolutions, they metaphorically gave up and because of their lack in faith the Sierra Leone civil war was the result around the year 2000.
The RUF began to retaliate by gathering more and more child soldiers and depriving them from their families and their childhood, destroying those in their way, whether it being the child’s family itself, even Liberia's President Charles Taylor was involved but later on arrested.
This corruption has continued to grow and continued to be not dealt with which lead to dreadful historical day of September 11th. Never knew that had anything to do with it did you? Al-Qaeda simply got in contact with the blood diamond representatives and made a simply deal with them, Al-Qaeda will give them money and weapons for diamonds, he converted $10 million US into diamonds. Al Qaeda network reaped millions of dollars in the past three years from the illicit sale of diamonds mined by rebels in Sierra Leone, and that three senior Al Qaeda operatives had visited Sierra Leone at different times in 1998 and later. Which lead to more innocent lives lost even out of the battle zone. So because of this stone, the world is in a war against itself for what seems like, will never cease until people realize what is at stake for a piece of material such as a ring that coast over. In just the 1990s, after the civil war in Sierra Leone 50, 000 were dead and thousands upon thousands of amputees. In 2005, when Sierra Leone was supposedly at peace, $142 million worth of diamonds were exported and that was only in Sierra Leone.
In Angola, they had a civil war that lead to half a million deaths and 100,000 maiming and in just a 7 year gap, 1992 - 1999, UNITA almost made $4 billion in blood diamond sales which clearly destroyed the Kimberley Process resolution
Those who have experienced this appalling fate in Africa have been scared for life and they have lost all faith in being set free. They find themselves always angry and in extreme pain, while we walk around store-to-store complaining to our significant other "It's not big enough". Consider this, after being educated of the history of conflict-diamonds instead of complaining about how big a diamond is and deciding if the diamond is in fact big, decide whether the fact that over 2 million people died over that one tiny diamond is big enough for you.
