Got the idea from Okada's Arashi ni Shiyagare guesting (also two years ago) when he gave Nino those climbing shoes as a gift, because you know he really wants to take Nino out climbing. XD Added Kazuyuri, because I miss them. ♥ For my fellow Kazuyuri shippers - frostbittenlove, novemberbaby and april-0410 - as well.

"Rise and shine, Nino!!!"

Nino's closed, still resting eyes are met with the painfully blinding light shining through his bedroom window.

"NINO! WAKE UP!"

Nino doesn't open his eyes, not only because his eyes hurt, but also because he doesn't need to. He recognizes that voice a little too easily.

"Okada-shi, what the hell are you doing in my apartment at..." he reluctantly checks his alarm clock, "...five in the morning?"

"We're going climbing! Remember?"

Okada sounds oddly enthusiastic. But then again, Nino muses, this is Okada Junichi. Things that make this older man happy are things that Nino happens to not understand. It's a complicated friendship.

Nino lets out an annoyed groan. "I remember now, thanks."

Okada decides to change the question. "Where are your climbing shoes?"

"My what?" Nino says as he rubs his eyes. When Nino finally looks at Okada, that's when he realizes that Okada's in full combat gear. His day just started, and things are getting worse already.

"The ones I gave you a few months back, you know, with complete national TV coverage and stuff?"

Nino gets up from his bed as slowly as he can, his back turned to Okada when he tells him, "Mom took them."

Okada raises an eyebrow. "Why?" Even without looking back, Nino knows he's raising an eyebrow.

"I have no idea, mistook them for those weird-looking swimming shoes, wanted to wear them to the hot springs."

Okada sighs, "And why do I believe that?"

"Because clearly you have underestimated my charms." This sends Okada into a fit of laughter.

"Haha, but seriously, Nino, we have to go. We can't afford to climb after sunrise. I have an extra pair of shoes here just in case."

Nino admires Okada's earnestness, that's undoubted, but really, an extra pair? And he thought his lie had already let him off the hook.

"It's five in the morning, man. I have work in, like, six hours."

"We'd better get going then. And besides, Yuriko-chan's coming too."

Wait. "What?"

"You heard me," Okada gives him a knowing smile. "Yoshitaka Yuriko."

Nino's eyes are squinting. "I do not believe a word you're saying."

"Dude, would I ever lie to you?" Okada reasons. "And you would lie to me, by the way."

"Proof."

"You know, I can always climb on my own, and if Yuriko-chan is really with me, I can have you talk to her on the phone. Quality time opportunity wasted right there."

Nino knows they are friends for a reason. A long pause occurs, before he glares at his friend. "How?"

"Oh I don't know, a friend told me she wanted to come?"

"Now you're just being ridiculous."

"Because someone told her about your nationally broadcasted climbing shoes?" Okada presses his lips together, expecting Nino to know enough so that he won't have to explain further. "Come on, there's a possibility that at least ten people already told her about that."

It's Nino's turn to raise an eyebrow. "Fine." He finally says through his gritted teeth.

There's something about menacing about Okada's smirk afterwards that makes Nino's skin crawl. Oddly, it reminds him of himself.

---------------------

"Okay, you didn't tell me she'd bring two more people with her." Nino grumbles as he walks side-by-side with Okada.

"Do you think I like waiting for four people to catch up with me?"

Nino stops. "You're the one who invited me, asshole."

"Okay, maybe except you, and Yuriko-chan, for you," he stammers, huffing. "But I did not ask for a school field trip."

Nino can't help but chuckle. "Well, since you dragged me here, could you at least do me a favor and talk to her entourage there? Kinda kills the mood a bit."

Okada scoffs. "Yeah of course, why not."

Okada falls back on purpose, as Nino gives him a subtle salute of gratitude. He starts talking to the other girls, "Is this your first time to climb here at Tanzawa?"

Nino slows down as well, this time carefully situating himself beside Yuriko. "Okay, Yuu-chan, seriously, why did you say 'yes' to Okada-kun?"

Yuriko giggles, "This is not the pick-up line I was expecting, Ninomiya-san."

Nino chokes. "T-This isn't a date!"

"Yeah, sorry about that," she says, though she's still smiling. "They begged to come, knowing that Okada-san was the one inviting me, you know, since he's really handsome and all."

He rolls his eyes. "Of course that's the reason. It must be tough being popular. I seriously don't know how he does it."

Yuriko chuckles. "And you're not popular?"

Nino shakes his head. "I'm not, though you know, people who like me must be hipsters or something. I'm a niche-based kinda taste."

She merely giggles.

"What?"

"Nothing, I mean," she looks away, "Might as well call me a hipster then." She quickly glances back, now blushing.

Nino smiles back. This is turning out to be awesome after all, despite not really being a date. And as if on cue, he can hear flirtatious giggling at the background (Nino didn't care that it was Yuriko's friends flirting with Okada; at least it fits the mood right now). "I like you too, Yuriko."

He reaches out his hand, waiting for hers to clasp with it.

She obliges without hesitation.

---------------------

After four hours of climbing up and going down Mt. Tanzawa, as Okada previously promised he takes Nino back home right before his call time at work. The car ride back is a bit quiet, but Okada can sense that it went well between the two lovebirds.

"You don't have to thank me, you know," Okada snarkily says out loud, throwing small side glances at his friend.

"I absolutely don't, because you enjoyed that climb yourself, Okada-shi," Nino retorts.

"I did not!" Okada protests, though he is laughing as well.

"Oh, you're pretending that you did not enjoy flirting with Yuriko's friends," Nino states in a sing-song manner. "You're such a ladies' man, Mr. SP~"

"Please don't compare me to Ken-chan," Okada complains. "I only did that so you and Yuriko-chan would be alone. Besides, they did know it was supposed to be your 'date'."

Nino does a double-take.

"Apparently, she'd told them beforehand," Okada continues for Nino. "And she knew you wouldn't come unless I forced you to, so she took her friends with her so I wouldn't be the 'third wheel', in the event that it did turn into a 'date'."

"Stop weirdly emphasizing words," Nino scoffs. Then he sighs, "Huh."

Yuriko has always been a fascinating woman for Nino, a woman full of surprises, and this time too, she didn't fail to surprise him.

"Why am I always involved with such oddballs?" Nino helplessly asks aloud.

Okada laughs, because he knows Nino means him, as well.

END.

Btw, I am so procrastinating right now because my final exams are next week (!!!) and I haven't studied at all. So I read a bunch of fics and now want to write more. Not promising anything, but I hope to continue my Okamiya as secret agents fic? Maybe?
